Theorycrafting max sail for kobold.
Just something i've been tinkering with for awhile now and wanted to see if anyone else wants to chew on it also, the idea isn't really concrete on which classes to take or what fighting style is used, the only hard req's is max sail..or has close to max as it can get.
Re: Theorycrafting max sail for kobold.
A pretty playable character would be max wisdom cleric/loremaster with +6 gift of sail at start, travel and strength domains (another +6), loremaster gift of exploration (+12) and skill focus & ESF sail. So (off the top of my head) that's like +14 or +15 wisdom bonus, 33 skill points, +13 skill bonuses hard modifier then +24 soft class & gift bonuses (I assume those are all soft) then gear... I think you can get to 111 sail if you can get all +50 soft bonuses from gear and maybe a bard?
Biggest problem is no disc and tumble dump I guess. You could take 3 fathomless warlock levels for that and another +3 bonus, you're getting into dispel issues of course if you do that but arcane defense abjuration would help a bit.

25 swash / 5 fighter.
You get SF and ESF: Sail for free. Blinding Speed just got changed so your cooldown will just be 1 turn.
EDIT: My half-awake brain just realized you truly meant MAX sail regardless of viability.

Re: Theorycrafting max sail for kobold.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Sail caps at 100.
33 ranks + 13 skill foci + 50 soft skill cap = 96, meaning you'll need 18 wisdom.
Standard soft bonuses:
Bards +14-16
Items +22
Gift +6
Good Hope +2
How you reach the soft skill cap is up to you, be it Warlock/LM, Cleric/LM or whatever else. They're all pretty good utility casters.

Re: Theorycrafting max sail for kobold.
threw something together on pgcc
24/3/3
Cleric/loremaster/fathomless
Gift of sail+sail feats then had 40 wis with full gear on
The max I got was 110 though that was without good hope or bard song..and ye the build itself would be a pure meme lol

from what i’ve noticed the ship crew skill(the average from everyone) maxes out at 100,going higher than that on a single person just gives abit of wiggle room to everyone else imoMRFTW wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 6:24 amCorrect me if I'm wrong, but Sail caps at 100.

Re: Theorycrafting max sail for kobold.
+30 Soft Sail (Full Dweomer Sail Gear, + 3 epic sail gear items)
+12 Soft Sail (Gift of Exploration, Lore Master)
+2 Good Hope (Spell)
+6 Sail Background
----
50 Soft Sail Cap Reached, without bardsong.
33 Sail
+2 Kobold
+3 Sail (Skill Focus: Sail)
+10 Sail (Epic Skill Focus: Sail)
+6 Hard Sail, Travel and Strength Domain (Cleric)
+9 Hard Sail, Epic Fathomless Path (Warlock)
----
63 sail pre wisdom
= 113 Sail pre wisdom.
So that would be Cleric 3, Loremaster 3, Warlock 24.
If you can somehow get to +13 wisdom modifier, you would hit the 126 skill max.

Have you tested and checked that these arent soft bonuses as well? curious.FallenDabus wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 3:21 pm+6 Hard Sail, Travel and Strength Domain (Cleric)

Re: Theorycrafting max sail for kobold.
The warlock build wins the theory contest but may not be too playable since you need 18 charisma to get +9 sail, 16 intelligence for loremaster and even if you dump dex and con you'll be starting with 18 max wisdom, meaning if that's where you added all your ability bonuses and took one great wisdom feat you'd only get to 26 wisdom and +8 skill bonus.
Is no-dex, 8 con and 18 max charisma warlock playable? Maybe kinda. I'd say a caster cleric topping out at 40 wisdom getting 15 skill bonus and doing a 3-level fathomless dip for the +3 would be a much more playable character than a barely functioning wisdom based warlock, if that matters, and you'd only be down a negligible amount of sail points. *shrugs* Though I admit I may be missing some obvious reason not to do that.

Not personally, but other Sencliff players confirmed that these are hard bonuses.AstralUniverse wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 8:20 pmHave you tested and checked that these arent soft bonuses as well? curious.FallenDabus wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 3:21 pm+6 Hard Sail, Travel and Strength Domain (Cleric)

23 Warlock, 3 Cleric, LM 4 would also bring yoink to that build, as that is a huge quality of life feature for sailing and you are essentially already running a terribly gimped build in terms of PvE and PvP. By contributing to the overall sail score (towards the 100 cap), you are effectively adding +5 crew average to a crew 6 ship, or +9 crew average to a crew 4 ship.
(126 + 90 + 90 + 90 + 90 + 90) / 6 = 96 Crew Average
(126 + 95 + 95 + 95 + 95 + 95) / 6 = 100 Crew Average (Cap)
(126 + 90 + 90 + 90) / 4 = 99 Crew Average
27 Warlock, 3 Cleric IMO is the better version of the build. While it makes you bard reliant for max sail (due to the lacking +12 soft sail from loremaster), the build only really shines as an additional support build to a bard anyway.

Re: Theorycrafting max sail for kobold.
Yeah I guess that's the trade off. But I think, if you go 25 lock 5 loremaster, drop 6 sail (really not much, with all things considered, right? Idk how important it is in those extremely high benchmarks tbh) and you can actually be a relatively decent support/party pvp build + can solo because 25 lock builds can actually solo, and then you also have a functional CL vs dispels.

Re: Theorycrafting max sail for kobold.
Lack of cleric means you lose 6 hard sail points, aka can not hit the fabled 126 sail but would be more around 120. I do not think the extra six sail points are worth it if the character is not enjoyable to play in every other regard. So yeah, I'd definitely prefer playing 25 Warlock / 5 Loremaster over the 23 Warlock / 4 Loremaster / 3 Cleric variation.
If you want to make a fantastic sailing support build, 25Bard / 5 Loremaster or 30 Bard is definitely it. I play a level 30 sailing bard and it is such a gods-sent, because I never have to deal with the woes of finding a bard.
In terms of great sailing builds, I am of the opinion anything that can get to 90+ sail with a bard song fits the bill. I really like the 26 Swashbuckler / 4 Loremaster combo that a couple of folks are running.

Just to clarify this isn't something that i plan on playing just something that i've been tinkering with/thinking of how high you can get it

yeah idk the fact you reach +50 cap without bard song kinda takes the wind off the sails.FallenDabus wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 4:46 pmIf you want to make a fantastic sailing support build, 25Bard / 5 Loremaster or 30 Bard is definitely it. It does seem to me like 25 lock 5 lm is the ultimate sail build.
