Drow warlock rp idea

Post by Ozzy.nl » Fri Jul 13, 2018 7:38 pm

Hey folks.

So basicly I am looking for some RP ideas sugestions. I recently made a drow warlock abyssal path. Now my idea is that she still honors lolth. Now my question regards more to the path as to what demon might have made this packt with her and what kind of deal for power it could be. For a infernallis warlock this is easy but i cant seem to find a good referance as to abyssal rp.

So can anyone trow me a bit info or concept ideas as to pact deals and some such so that she can still be a loyal lolthite drow?

Lolth lives in the Abyss and has a bunch of demon servants. In fact, generally speaking, it makes more sense for a drow to be Abyssal than Infernal, though the presence of House Freth certainly gives Infernal drow an avenue.

At risk of Drizzting things up, pacting to a demon ally of Lolth (or minion or whatever) who has a specific agenda would make sense. Like Errtu in the books (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Errtu)

With anyone chaotic and evil the concept of loyalty is a shaky one anyway and you're probably serving yourself before any deity or pact. Any demon making a pact probably knows a CE warlock is going to be a loose cannon and plan accordingly. I might just play like a clueless, selfish CE drow with the idea that the demon pact giver has an agenda she doesn't know about, and maybe somewhere along the line some opportunity to RP that agenda will inspire you. (I'm a big believer in creating intentionally vague characters at level 3 who are developed along the way as you get the feel for them, instead of mapping out their whole past and future in detail on creation.)

Drow warlocks often pact with Lolth. This would be handled similarly to priestesses as well. A warlocks is an agent of lolth that must keep her favor.

Edit: contrary to what some people think , there are usually two kinds of warlocks. Those that believe in the cause of their pact, and those that don't. A drow warlock is probably a believer, otherwise there is a good chance they'd just be seen as a heretic. Depending on where the come from. Many warlocks have dreams of those they are pacted with as well, which would no doubt give them some sway.

Thanks everyone for there reaction it has been most helpfull. And as to Dark Perin I did not know warlocks could be pacted with a god from the abyss. I thought it was only demons. This does make my options much more simple and still I can stay in line with true drow RP.

A good clarification is that you can worship a God AND also be in service to a Demon/devil/fey. Your character has agreed to give fealty to said creature, to willingly serve them and/or give them something (soul, voice, whatever), to make a pact with them, but they can still also 'worship' a deity.

In the above case, your character can worship Lolth and also go 'But I want power, so I'm going to promise service to this creature over here.' And if that creature is an abysal demon then the chances are that Lolth would, more or less, be OK with that too.

Might even be a safer bet to go with a deamon in service of Lloth as the faithful clergy might accuse your char of heresy if you claim to commune directly with Lloth

Could be all sorts of demons really, as are many a kind. Are some of a very cunning chaos mindset compared to others, and so on. Looking up various kinds of demons and seeing one that takes your fancy as something to influence your character could be an idea.

Don't even have to go what is "safe" in the eyes of the clergy, as no need to tell them the truth of the matter if it ever comes up. Power you reached out for your own benefit, so spin that web of lies as best suits!

Pacting with a Yochlol is the tried and true method of being a drow warlock who is loyal to lolth. Someone who gets their power directly from lolth is a priestess, and any warlock who claims to be getting their power directly from lolth will be assumed to be lying and charged with heresy, because their magic is of an arcane, not divine nature, and thus must be from a different source.

That said, the temple has allowed, in the past, for abyssal warlocks pacted with Yochlol to serve as matrons(since that is an approved source of power, as Yochlol have no free will, and would not act against Lolth's desires) . House Grelles and Trisvaria were both run by Yochlol pacted warlocks, so there is also precedent. I don't believe they were heavily involved in actual temple RP, likely because they lacked the spells to do the nescessary rituals.
