Forgot to post about the very minor update I did.
  • Page design slightly modified, player boxes are now a specific width and have text-overflow to avoid stretching the general design.
  • Sorting options are saved to a cookie. Does not currently have expiration dates; once I remember to do that, they'll be set to expire one year from when they were last modified.

I like this project, but can I ask if you've any interest in adding FL to the portal page as well. And if It's already planned, because I didn't read through the entire thread that's great.

It'd be minor and perhaps more work then it's worth as their's less then 10 players I can name off hand that play FL anymore.
It's a Dwarf, no it's a Dragon, no it's a Halfling! I think.

The only problem is I'm not sure there is a way to query FL data through the API.
I'll look into it, but can't make any promises.

Likely downtime for the upcoming day or so.
Testing server centralization.

This change will be valid once the DNS propagates, and valid until it either works properly or gets thrown back to the old setup.

* Reverted the changes.
The site should be available to most again. If not, you need only but wait.

Things happened!
As you may have noticed using my player list, there's now a notification about "complications".
I'll go into more detail in it here.

So, there were some issues with the player list not having been working for several hours in a row.
Investigating that, I noticed that it had just failed to write a file. But before reaching to that conclusion, I had attempted to check if the cron task was running, and therefore had removed it once.

It seems the hosting has some weird CRON system, as I had left a new task waiting since yesterday night but it hadn't run at all.
Hence I figured it best I move the player list to another server of mine that handles the job better.
A server where I have more control over what happens and where.

This for you, the users of my player list, means that the URL has been changed (albeit the old URL still will work, and will set a cookie so that it knows to redirect you each time you use the old URL).

So, what truly does it mean for the users? Nothing really.
But I figured I should tell y'all about that in either case.

There were also a couple other minor changes to how content is delievered to the end user.
Mostly unnoticeable to the user, but it might make it more responsive (Getting an update -every- 5 seconds rather than every -15 or 30 seconds-, for example).

Oh, and the page was also updated to respect Do Not Track.
Albeit the only thing it ever had going for it was a very minimal Google Analytics setup.
Now, I know I never disclosed that. But you needn't fret about it. All the data it ever collected was, has and will be anonymous (ie, it can't be connected to you in any shape or form), and was, has and will be used to better suit the sites for users (ie, to know what parts of the site the user frequents and "sees", which from a design perspective is important).
(Yes, I know that that could be felt intrusive to some of you. And for that I'm sorry. It should've been behind DNT since the day the page was made, but alas, I am terribly lazy. There should also be a notification about Cookies and Trackers on the site. But alas, I am lazy.)

TL;DR: Do Not Track checks, changed URL, redirect on old URL. New content delivery method, might be faster.

Recent change prompted me to say this: I truly appreciate what you've done by making this site and providing it to us. It's immensely helpful in running a faction, and I just wanted to say thank you.

Just so I'm clear there is no way to opt out of this. Correct?

If you're asking what TRM is asking you, then no, not currently.
But then again, that topic has been gone through for several times.

However, if you play under another account than your forum account, then it's nearly the same effect.

I suppose y'all might've noticed, but I've been doing little design tweaks to the player list as a whole.
Primary cause for this is for more mobile support.

Scrying should be more than mobile friendly right now.
The player list itself seems to separate to two sides currently. Depending on mobile screen size, it probably looks silly.

In efforts to figuring out why does Firefox scroll the page so darned slow, I found the issue to be a bug on Firefox dating all the way back to 2003.

As such, I applied a minor change to the CSS of the player list (Design), so that it now scrolls properly on Firefox.

Ofcourse, this doesn't come without a price.
The scrollbar is now 80px longer than it was before, stretching over the top and bottom bars.
The light effect also no longer follows the page. But I suppose that doesn't hurt anyone.

Scratch everything I said in the last post.
It's actually not related to the bug I had thought it was related to, but in fact it had to do with font size enforced to the body of the document, and having a specific font size for each and every rules that should have a font size. (Which, mind you, still works on everything but Firefox, but I got the wrong bug to blame here)

Therefore, I should say that the scrolling issue and pre-fix for the issue has (or should've) been fixed for good now.

If people have ideas and/or suggestions as how to have each server appear on the list, that'd be appreciated feedback. Currently they're side-by-side.
If people rather they collapse so that surface is on top and C&P on bottom when on lower resolutions, that can be done.

If buttons are wished (or tabs for that matter), that's also possible.
But first I want to hear from the people themselves.

Borked!
Will need to reinstall the server. Hopefully I remembered to backup all necessary files.
Expect downtime between a couple hours to a couple days.

Working as intended.
Server reinstalled, files moved, other stuff done.
Trying other means for updating the files, so that may or may not cause unnecessary errors.

Turns out I forgot to automate certificate renewal.
Fixing that now, site should not be displaying "Privacy error" for long now.

All set.

Could be cool if when you scry someone (that pop-up opens) that it showed if said played came online. and if the online text was red coloured. so if you wanna met someone you can easily see if the player came online, so you can hop on and conclude your business with them.

I'm assuming you mean you want some form of notification system for keeping track of when your pals join in game.

I did plan on releasing a desktop notification system several months ago, but ultimately had to ditch the idea because of how little uniform support there was for that on browsers back then. (In other words, Firefox didn't even have desktop notification support back then)
It'd have been more effort than effect back then.

I might look into desktop notifications again at some point.
Other forms of notifications are always an option too.

Minor updates are great.
Character history no longer carried over every content update on the main page, (~75% size reduction for every update. Who'd have thonked.)
And scry renders content as chunks vs. as chain. (May or may not improve performance)

I guess.
You can have friend notifications now.
That's a thing.
On some browsers, at least.
Expect everything to break.

Firefox users note, notifications don't seem to work currently.
But you get highlighted player entries on the list, at least.

Nevermind the above, forgot to prompt for permissions.

Currently you have to scry someone and click the "+" next to their name in the scry window.
If the "+" isn't visible, that'd be for your browser either not supporting the feature, or being outright outdated.

There's an issue on mobile devices currently, ought to get that fixed at some point.
