Re: Warlock
You want 16 charisma in order to get all your spells. Everything else goes into constitution.
The only stat that matters to you is constitution. Wear constitution + universal saves gear. Enchant concentration, discipline, and spellcraft as skills. If you can get heal (e.g. by enchanting dropped items), all the better.
For your armor/shield/helmet, you want adamantine for a combination of AC/Damage Immunity. For your weapon, you want something with high AB to maximize touch attack rolls. None of the other stats on it matter.
Just summon and spam spells to win. It's a very forgiving class.

Weapon?
Wait how do warlocks these days work?
I still remember the old once right after they trew the staffs out.
And would addy armor and shield not effect the arcane spell failure?

Re: Warlock
Warlocks are pretty much the same as after they got rid of staves. Having a +3 weapon just gives you +3 to your ranged touch attack rolls with warlock blast.
They also get -20% spell failure on armor and shield, so can equip chain shirts and large shields with no spell failure penalty.

Would you get another 2AB on those touch attacks for using a large weapon?Baron Saturday wrote:Warlocks are pretty much the same as after they got rid of staves. Having a +3 weapon just gives you +3 to your ranged touch attack rolls with warlock blast.

Mmmmmmaybe? I don't know that it's worth losing 5 AC, though.

Sweet never knew that.
And walking around in armor and longsword gives a illusion that you are just another fighter when in a group.

You'll probably want to bluff a couple of attributes for that.Ozzy.nl wrote:Sweet never knew that.

Re: Warlock
Note that AB isn't at all important to warlocks. It's a ranged touch attack, which avoids the vast majority of armor sources.
I had an epic lock with 11 base dexterity, and a maximized cat's grace was enough to ensure his blasts landed 99% of the time. You'll only run into trouble against high-dex AC enemies, and even then it's like 50/50.
So don't sweat AB. Warlocks are a very easy class.

Re: Warlock
So if i where to use a spear and get some str items plus max str i would have a decent enough ab to hit with the range attack?
Re: Warlock
Touch attacks use dex to calculate AB.
In general, though. Full con/uni gear, addy stuff, EDR3, gsf conj and abjuration, quicken as your only metamagic.
Use a greensteel/damask +3 weapon or a +4 enhancement random dungeon rack one. You'll only struggle to hit pre-lvl.12, but you've a summon for that. Having played several warlocks to 30, you'll hit things like Abazuur very reliably just by how touch attacks work, without a single piece of dex gear.
Dexlocks are a myth. Don't do it. They're a bad meme with their roots in the pursuit of making touch attacks reliable at low levels. Which they're not. At higher levels, though? Most reliable form of offense in the game, as long as you can do away with enemy concealment.

Re: Warlock
I dunno, I enjoyed my dex-based feylock. The idea behind it was actually to make feylocks less frustratingly vulnerable at low levels, which worked just fine. I wouldn't try it with a fiendlock, but feylocks get a decent group of defensive spells, making going for AC with one a less futile gesture. And with things like the Armor of Immolation around, I think that could be a good bit of fun to try.Hexgoblin wrote:Dexlocks are a myth. Don't do it. It does. Blind fight is mandatory on a warlock, I'd say!BegoneThoth wrote:I'm guessing blind-fight has no influence on RTA's?

How good are warlocks these days? Do they excel at pace or pvp? How do they compare to others?

Re: Warlock
Feylocks can now be countered in PvP by a certain method that used to be off the table, unless they make certain preparations, and they aren't as powerful as they were in PvE due to the change to mass haste, but otherwise I'd imagine they're still solid in both. Keep in mind, they used to be ridiculously overpowered.

Re: Warlock
You jest but it would probably be workable even now... 22(23) Fiendlock/8(7) Ranger, around DC: 28 - 31 Reflex Save no spellcraft help and immune to Grease thanks to Woodland Stride allowing it to act as both offense and defense. Uses Summon Monster IX scrolls for Ancient Earth Elementals instead of their fiends as they're immune to KD. Add in a skill dump for Animal Empathy and you have an additional "okay" pet that can't be banished that you just need a half second to refresh every 7-8 minutes.Baron Saturday wrote:Greaselock meta will rise someday, just you wait!Wytchee wrote:The tradeoff being there's only one way to build them, really, with little variation.Baron Saturday wrote:Yup. Not going to say it would be "top tier" but should be decent.
