Noble house names
I'm writing a book but I suck with names. Anyone who might have a character with a noble sounding house for a fantasy book feel free to share. Can even give them a banner and cool motto if you like.

Re: Noble house names
House Dollant. Their emblem was a lion's head with star eyes. (A noble house of the Nobanion/Mystran faith). It is the kind of house that was meant to serve the people. Very much a "noblesse oblige" style house.

Re: Noble house names
Other noble houses IG that come to mind would be Susidian, Eldafire, and Veirmont.

Re: Noble house names
The ones I named were all human houses. Dollant is Waterdhavian. Veirmont is Damarian. I don't know what the origins of the other two are.

Re: Noble house names
It's a custom fantasy of my own design. It's predominately human populated world. But magical creatures like undead and dragons exist. And other secrets.
So the names can be human but eleven or other could also work.
What would really help is the:
Name
Sigil/banner
Colors
Motto: example: winter is coming.
You can use your ig faerun ones if you like and I'll probably be able to tweet them to match the setting

Re: Noble house names
If you're writing a book, I'd implore you to generate these names yourself. Finding a characters name through Google to tie back here would certainly cheapen the name.

Re: Noble house names
I'm working on names myself. Though it doesn't hurt to have some inspiration. I've never had to make a royal house name so seeing how others do it might help me

Re: Noble house names
House D'Adlaer, heraldry is a golden falcon on a velvet background. Their main colour is purple, although their main insignia is a purple feather in their hats.
I never gave them a motto! But if they had one it'd be something to do with money and the sea.
They hail from a port city and are a noble merchant house. Officially in my canon lore (you are free to alter it~) they have four sons and two daughters. One of the daughters dies young from disease. As port-merchants they have a small fleet of three ships - two cargo and one warship.
If you want more Canon on them (notable people, ships, etc), let me know~

Re: Noble house names
Maybe the thing to do here is to think about the meaning of the names. For example, are they named after an ancestor? What makes the name significant for the characters in the story, and how does it figure into the setting? Consider the real-life noble family De Medici. Their name literally means "of the doctors". So who are the people in your noble house, and what are they named for? Do they take pride in their name, or is it a source of shame? Maybe the house is named after its place of origin. From where does this place take its name? Et cetera.

House Hawklight
Sigil: A raptor tenny in flight against an azure field, a rose argent clutched in its talons.
Colors: Blue w/red accents; brooches or pins in the shape of red or white roses a common adornment. (in FR terms, lots of Sune worship)
Motto: To New Heights.

Eldafire is from Elder Scrolls III: MorrowindDarkDreamer wrote:Eldafire I know for a fact is an Elven name from Evermeet.
In Sweedish, I believe the name means firestarter
There are no Eldafires in actual FR lore.
On Arelith, it is purely my creation. If you would like to use it, please PM me.
ACTUAL elven nobles from FR canon would be more like Durothil, Moonflower, Vyshaan, Aelorothi, Starym, etc
Celestia Silverarms
Karynn Eldafire
Re: Noble house names
Eldafire actually would mean "Firefire.", or "Light a fire fire", "Heat fire".. Its kinda odd. But then again, our language is odd.
Re: Noble house names
A good tip is to generate names yourself so you don't have future problems with intellectual property! You can find names through some generators by the meaning. For example, if you research a name of Celtic origin that means Crow you will come across Bran (which is no coincidence to be a GoT character that is also the three-eyed raven).
Also noble animals were common symbols for noble houses! So lions, wolves, birds of prey (especially eagles) should be good choices. So adding these to a noble's house name is also fine.
If you want to stay true to rules of heraldry when creating banners you just have to be careful with colors. Don't use red, green, blue, purple, black or brown with each other (for example don't go for a red falcon on a blue sky). Also don't use silver, grey, gold, yellow, orange with each other. But mixing the two groups is gutchi, for example a Golden Stag in a Green Forest.
Have fun creating houses! Their symbols, motto and names can mean a whole lot to a story!
That being said, feel free to use Eric Lugger (lugger is a type of falcon that was prized by falconers) if you wish!
