3D Modeling Sci Fi Hallway Export Frames

Post by The Kriv » Mon May 15, 2017 6:27 pm

These images are from my Autocad Maya class final project which was due this past on Friday. Here are a couple of .jpg frame grabs. I had to bump the quality down from 32bit .exr's to 16bit .jpg's and resize them to 1/4 original to get them to post, so a little detail was lost, and some images are a bit darker than they actually are, but they resized fairly decent.

There are a bit more details I would like to add to the walls as well as some incandescent mesh lights in the door and wall panels to get it to be where it needs to be, but it's a good start.

Oh, wow, this looks great! Did you do this all on your own? How long did this take to do?

I'm having flashbacks of Starwars: Knights of the Old Republic. I suggest you play it if you're into Starwars. Bioware recycled the NWN system to make it so you'll find the gameplay rather familiar.

This was about 3 weeks of work, modeling the hallway from scratch, doing the texturing and lights... lots of revisions (and more revisions) it still lacks quite a lot of little details that you would expect to see in a sci-fi spaceship/station environment, but it's a good start IMO.

This looks great for three weeks. And yeah, nearly half of your time is spent doing adjustments and detail work! Was any of the modeling done procedurally, or did you do it all manually?

Same.

God that combat A.I. is atrocious though

no, Maya's procedurals are way complicated for my feeble brain. This was all done manually, but there's a lot of manual cloning happening. The hallway segments actually are just one segment (shaped like a "C") that is duplicated, flipped (for the opposite side) and stitched together (Like two C's mirrored together make a "O"") -that way I could substitute window-segments or doorway-segments wherever it seemed to fit on either side.

I am hoping to put a little more time into it to beef up the details a little. I'll push an update when I get some time to polish.

Some more rendered frames from class assignments in Autodesk Maya:

The assignment: create an interior inspired by a fictional work, but has no known published rendering of any kind. I chose a LotR inspired Ranger's cabin interior.

And another assignment: "Build Any Tool" ...so of course... Lightsaber:
(this one didn't have the restriction of being original, so I could choose any reference I wanted)
