Item's being Eaten

There are sometimes reason why using items won't give you results.
IE, clarity timer, piety not high enough for raise/rez, other things I can't think of right now...
Can we have it so the items aren't lost in that case?
The clarity timer isn't massive long but you are busy in combat or not paying attention to your combat log, you can miss the yellow words and floaty text. Dragons don't care about floaty text...
Raise scrolls are pricey...
