What hardware do you use?

Does this type of freeze happens only when you are playing NWN or it's also present on other games?

Does the game output any logs or something?

Hardware
More Hardware

It only happens in NWN. I tried to test offline, or on another server, but another bug manifested itself that meant reinstalling my client and I since lost my vault, so watch this space.

The game doesn't output a crash dump. It recovers, only to freeze again a few minutes later. The freezes last about half a minute.

Since reinstalling, it also freezes in the menu system. So I think this isn't confined to Arelith. I'll check Beamdog.

Is the game installed on an other drive than usual? I had a problem once where disk access caused my games on that drive to freeze badly. I changed my disk and everything was fine.

It's hard to help you when we don't have much information. Is your RAM full when executing NWN? Is your CPU working at 100%?

You may want to try Beamdog forums as well for support.

System Resources During a Freeze

I'll have a go on Beamdog.

Nothing seems wrong with your stats. Last thing I would check is the response time of your programs when you are playing NWN. I believe your "freeze" comes from FPS drop, and that would come from high latency (response time) of your programs.

If everything's fine there, the problem really seems to be on Beamdog's end.

On Windows, you can use the Resource Monitor. Not sure if there is an equivalent for Linus or macOS.

I enabled Steam's FPS tracker. It's detecting an FPS drop during the freezes.

Yes well something is causing those FPS drops. You need to find the cause. Then we will have a chance to fix the problem. As I said in older posts, it can be many things. I didn't see anything wrong with your numbers so far.

You could try reinstalling NWN on an other drive.

Also, are you sure it's using you Nvidia GPU?

I switched drives, it's all good. I'm fairly sure it's using the GPU, I only have the one monitor, I play through Steam and all my other games are fine. The monitor plugs directly into the GPU.

I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this one. But it's really annoying and I want to break something.

So it turned out I had a dying hard drive.

Replaced it, issue gone. :)
