As the title states the new lightweight lasso cannot be used as a lasso for climbing. Haven't tested it for capturing creatures so I can't attest to that, but it definitely isn't working to be used for climbing.
Trying to click a Lasso point you get the message: "You don't have any lassos left for this."

Seems to be working as intended now since resets.
