Should Sibayad be restricted to boat travel?
I was thinking about the issues people have with everything on Arelith feeling too close and with portal access making the server feel small.
So, I propose the isolation of all of the Sibayad distant shore portals to be within Sibayad, leaving the dock area as a source portal, only. Restrict travel to and from Sibayad to once per 6-24 RL hours via NPC boat, or more liberally, perhaps, with unlimited charter/player owned ships, but with an increase to the navigation times. Reasons being: this will give Sibayad a more /distant shores/ feel, but leave it slightly more accessible than Skaljard.
Sibayad would never be empty after these changes, because the area offers so much in terms of content, grinding and writs. It would be better, if people did not have the ability to teleport seven epics to the island instantly on a whim.
The distance will also help foster the argument of "You have no authority here." Because it actually is a Far Off Land, not some place you clicked the button and instantly teleported to.

Thsi is one of those ideas that initially it sounds like it might be able to be a good idea, but turns into a logistical nightmare and a coding hazard waiting to happen.
There are already plenty of places that are travel restricted or hard to reach, we honestly do not need the same to be said for Sibayad.

I might as well let you into a long term design plan, some of the scripts are already in place for this.
I want to create a large galleon, a floating casino that will be a quasi settlement in its own right, and will replace the ferry between Crow's Nest and Sibayad, calling at other main ports on the way. The journey will take a similar time to travel to Skaljard by player ship and leave only a few times a day.
At the far end Sibayad town would be moved inland (due to expanded sand banks etc) and player would have to traverse a long desert/volcanic wilderness in order to eventually reach it.
All in all the journey to Sibayad would be a large undertaking, and very much feel like arriving somewhere far distant from Arelith (in lore I don't actually want Sibayad to be part of the Arelith Archipelago, similar to Skal). At the far end, of course, the portal will remain, so once a player has managed the somewhat epic journey, they will be able to come and go as they please.

OK, first reflex, without reading any post, has been to vote no of course.
But the plan divulged by Irongron here sounds really nice

Re: Should Sibayad be restricted to boat travel?
Should make Sib bigger as well... its much to small and could use more buildings and such. Maybe make it as big as Skall village at the least.
