Different races that might be interesting to play?
Just an idea of what might be fun for the server.
Re: Different races that might be interesting to play?
Less special, more mundane.

I don't think Arelith needs more races, right now. To be honest, I think that there are too many as it is.

Let's make sure the existing races are fun and worth taking before going overboard in adding exotic new options.
Dinosaur Space Program is my working partner on Arelith-related projects. If my inbox is full or I take a while to get back to you, feel free to PM them questions or concerns.
Re: Different races that might be interesting to play?
I would honestly rather see everything but humans made a reward. Or application only. A character's uniqueness should come from their character, not a racial template. Admittedly, that's not a very elves-and-dwarfy Forgotten Realms attitude, so I accept it's not likely to happen.
Nonetheless. With a limited playerbase, I'm firmly of the opinion that less is more.

May you live in interesting times.

Warforged. If I ever got a 5% I'd make a warforged.
Re: Different races that might be interesting to play?
Much like an ancient and wizened pervert (so dirty and vile), I have become almost entirely numb to the mundane, the usual, and the wholesome. I can only feel real RP pleasure by taking dumb, stupid, and janky character concepts and playing them to their logical conclusions.
If possible, I'd like to play any the following:
A Deer that Shoots Lasers ( based on this and this )
A golem of some kind (Warforged would be a good fit)
A Mephit that once served as a wizard's familiar
An awakened animal incapable of speech or using most kinds of equipment in exchange for being able to just use the bathroom wherever
A skeleton, ghost, or zombie who will finally be able to die once they complete their mission.
An Educated Ettin who's two heads bicker constantly about political theory
A gibberling who hunts men
A chicken who was once a man, but was balefully polymorphed into vengeful poultry

There are some lycanthrope variants that are somewhat common and wouldn't be too disruptive I think.
Certainly not as disruptive as any of the other things listed, as long as it was reward-gated.

All articles that coruscate with resplendence are not truly auriferous. Meaning: all that glitters ain't gold.

I wouldn't mind more races that just can't live in any cities at all and are pure wilderness races. Dryad being a prime example.
Maybe some higher ranked demons / devils.
That and Durro so you can just be a crazy guy.

Mundane's already covered. You have your core races and their common variants. Adding anything else puts you into snowflake territory. Being 'not a commoner' puts you in snowflake territory. Being able to cast spells puts you in snowflake territory. Having a stat greater than 14 puts you in snowflake territory. Every single PC is a special little snowflake who can only be considered 'mundane' in so much as it's one snowflake among thousands.
Re: Different races that might be interesting to play?
If you're a commoner, sure. I think Arelith is fine the way it is right now regarding races and special races.

Please, none of them. Keep specials 5% or they'll stop being special.
That which doesn't kill you, simply makes you... stranger.

The only one I can say for certain that I'd want to see are the return of Genasi.

The real reason for the myconids nerf... AR wants to keep his mushroom friends from being killed for their juicy exp.ActionReplay wrote:Myconids.
Re: Different races that might be interesting to play?
There's a vastly larger number of, say, aasimar than there are half-celestials, let alone elves vs half-celestials. I see absolutely no benefit in coding a new race for two people to play, and you obviously can't have a lot of the stuff on this list at any level other than 5%s.Ambigue wrote:How?Aero Silver wrote:Miaou said:
