Greenstone and Malachite-Different Drop Rates

Why don't these stones drop at the same rate? It strikes me that Greenstone drops WAY more and malachite is pretty rare. I save all my stones with one of my characters and I have over 150 greenstones and have only managed to collect like 60 malachite. I cannot speak for the nodes but I have heard that it is the same phenomenon.
The price of these stones should be the same as they are used in almost identical recipes and they should drop at the same rate. It would even the spell component playing field between alchemy and art.
