Flame Blade vs Darkfire

Info taken from NWN wiki and the Arelith Wiki.

Flame Weapon
2ND LEVEL SPELL
On Arelith: Lasts 1 turn per level.
On Arelith: Power is capped at Caster Level 10.
Grants 1d4 points of fire damage +1 per caster level to a maximum of +10.
Maximum Bonus Damage Range at Capped SL: 11-14 fire damage

Darkfire
3RD LEVEL SPELL
On Arelith: Lasts 1 turn per level.
On Arelith: Power is capped at Caster Level 10.
Grants 1d6 points of fire damage +1 per two caster levels of fire damage.
Maximum Bonus Damage Range at Capped SL: 6-11 fire damage

Why is Flame Weapon, a 2nd level spell, more powerful than Darkfire, a 3rd level spell?

That literally justifies nothing. If the Cleric were to use this spell, they would not only get it later than Wizards/Sorcerers would Flame Blade, but the damage output wouldn't be worth it compared to the other spells in its circle.

Sure it justifies something. Both are different spellbooks with different spell slot choices.

I could get behind that line of thinking when Spellswords weren't a thing. But now that they are, they outshine even melee-based clerics on this level.

A cleric gets a lot more use out of either than a wizard does, but have the less powerful choice in their spellbook. Granted, since they don't stack with anything they're both kind of garbage.

Darkfire and Flame Wep would be interesting if it worked similarly to GMW, except instead of adding enhancement, it'd add attack bonus and elemental damage.

GMW goes to +5 enhance, which is +5 AB/+5 phys damage

Let Darkfire and Flame Wep scale from +1/+1 to +3 AB/+6 elemental, letting players pick between all physical DR breaking or an elemental Master Damask. Bonus points if you tie this to the Stream command so you can pick fire/ice/acid/electric.

Boom, instant spell viability, and synergy with things like Elemental Rime poisons and Blackstaff.

I can definitely get behind that. I am curious about what led them to make Darkfire and Flame Weapon so weak in comparison to something like GMW. At least in the regular NWN Darkfire scaled to level 20.

This is a great idea that wont break the game at all. GMW still lasts longer and is superior in most cases.
