Quest: Morghunn the Black

Post by Baron Saturday » Sun Jan 14, 2018 8:18 pm

Was given this quest at level 13, wrangled a level 12 character - who also had the quest - into going with me. Was utterly overwhelmed by the summoned Marraenoloths of Morghunn's Blackguards, who are at this point are as much (or more!) of a threat as Morghunn himself - especially since the Marraenoloths tend to ignore -guard. These guys used to summon quasits!

I feel like the difficulty of this dungeon needs to be adjusted upwards, and the level at which the quest is offered upped as well, or the Blackguards need to be toned down to the point where they summon the T1 undead Mohrg instead.

Well that and they have a fear spell and a paralysis spell if I recall right, dang near deadly even at lvl 20. My lvl 30 Wm/Ftr/Rg still has to take extreem caution going there. If anything I think this dungeon could afford to be toned down a bit.

Marraenoloths are really strong.

Basically, as it is, the dungeon feels very uneven in challenge. Either everything aside from the Blackguards needs to be bumped up, or the Blackguards need to be toned down.

Personally, I would prefer that the Blackguards be toned down, as this dungeon is (story-wise) meant to fit somewhere between Wharftown Boys and the the Talos Stormlord.

I feel like Marraenoloths are easily the best summon of the tier. They let a caster hit above their weight class in the mid-levels.

Debatable. Erinyes and Succubi are hardly weak, and each have something that make them a large threat, especially at low teens. The T3 Planar summons are all much more dangerous than they used to be.

Though Succubi would at least make more sense, seeing as Morghunn is a demon-themed boss.

Are the Blackguards intended to be summoning Steam Mephits? They're certainly more manageable now, anyhow!

Also, regarding this: Seems like it's the Ghour's AoE ability that screws with the factions. It somehow sets Vrocks, Demonic Warriors, Ghours and Morguhn Soldiers all hostile to each other.

It seems like the Priests are now able to summon the Marraenoloths? Was that intentional?

I hope they don't mean malar preists, (which summoned succubi last I saw), bcuz those guys are already a mega pain if you don't get to them fast enough with their WoF. The high priests are even worse, large groups of them are awful lol.

Anyway glad the BGs were toned down! That summon usually just one shots with phantasmal killer or fear for any fighter in range for that dungeon.

For what it's worth, you can pretty easily neutralize the Marraenloth with a clarity potion

You're right. Participating in the forums was a mistake. Won't do this again.
