Gigantic Ice Golem

Post by RedGiant » Sun Aug 20, 2017 6:40 am

To add to the pile of Crinti-esque building....

+44 to hit (keep in mind, barring a one this means will always hit anything below AC 47)
Damage 60-70 per hit...without a crit...
Occurs in what used to be a mid-level area...

Insanely built, old-drow with full benefits...dead in three rounds (I count myself lucky to have lasted that long)...

Please tone down.

It's AB shouldn't be this high. Are you certain it was 44?

On other news, I'm lowering its damage.

Absolutely sure AB 44, got the stat from the combat logs while I waited at the Wall.

If anything reported was a guesstimate, it was the damage, which did dip into the 50s on me sometimes, but 60-70 was the general average in my brief encounter. Thank goodness it did not crit or I would have had even less data in the combat log.

Thanks for the tone-down. I think high AB or high damage is fine, but both where it was puts it in the party-only/epic boss fight category.

Another alternative would be to scale some more of its damage to cold, where at least there are easily had protections.

Is there a reason they are basically immune to Magic??

I had my mage use Maximized Flame Arrow on it three times, it literally showed no damage, no resistance, nothing.

Gigantic Golem has 26 SR.

It's by design to be a bit more challenging than the dragon, since before I thought it was rather pathetic. Damage is being reduced significantly soon.

There's the problem, as a level 15 spellcaster without spell penetration feats you need to roll 11+ on the spell resist roll to get any spells through on a SR 26 creature.

I've heard that the Ice Golem is immune to fire? But I'm not brave enough to go back and check it till Cortex dials it back abit...

Now why would "Ice" be immune to fire?...logically Air or water would make a lot more sense as Fire would melt ice, if anything it should be a vulnerability, Water or Air doing nothing and Ice damage healing it.

Because this golem's powerful! The lesser versions are weaker, and should be vulnerable to fire.

Ice being immune to fire actually makes a great deal of sense. Try throwing a block of ice on a campfire and you'll get a lot of noise and steam but very little actually happening, melting ice with a direct flame takes a fair while.

What would make more sense in my book would be sonic vulnerability.

It takes a fair while, but it DOES melt it, FIRE is stronger then ICE.

So does room temperature, but we don't see ice golems taking constant damage over time, do we?

So it's really just a Ice Golem that Mega Evolved and thus lost weakness to Fire attacks.

Guys we solved the mystery

If you are talking about the one in the cave close to the ice road its XP seems to be bugged: Killed it two times and got 1xp each time...

As in other threads, Golem is now doable and something less than insta-death for high teens low epics.

However, just fought it last night, and the 1xp payout it real. Is the CR set artificially low or something?

The CR is 46. I've made another boss from the ground up to replace it soon, perhaps that will fix it.
