Dwarven Barbarian Help

Post by Brandon Steel » Tue Jun 11, 2019 7:32 pm

Wanting to do a “Battlerager” and looking for a build. Can’t really find one focused on a dwarf, figuring to just use cookie cutter and remove a feat? Not really sure, any recommendations?

The cookie cutter minus a feat (lose lightning reflexes?) and using a dwarven waraxe looks solid to me (just focus Battle Axe and you get waraxe for free.) Nice thing is you can switch -onehand and -twohand with that weapon.

*Also keep base constitution at 18 for maximizing uses of rage... I think that is the standard advice now.

There's a few ways you can do this and Sea Shanties' suggestion is really solid, can't go wrong with it. If you want something different, however, you can also try things like an EDR Barbarian:

Barbarian(24), Fighter(3), Rogue(3), Dwarf

STR: 19 = 17 + 2(Gift)
DEX: 9
CON: 20 = 16 + 2(Race) + 2(Gift)
WIS: 8
INT: 14
CHA: 6 = 8 - 2(Race)

01: Barbarian(1): Expertise
02: Barbarian(2): {Uncanny Dodge I}
03: Barbarian(3): Improved Expertise
04: Barbarian(4): STR+1, (STR=20)
05: Barbarian(5)
06: Barbarian(6): Weapon Focus: Battleaxe
07: Barbarian(7)
08: Barbarian(8): STR+1, (STR=21)
09: Barbarian(9): Knockdown
10: Barbarian(10)
11: Barbarian(11)
12: Barbarian(12): STR+1, Improved Knockdown, (STR=22)
13: Barbarian(13)
14: Barbarian(14)
15: Barbarian(15): Improved Critical: Battleaxe
16: Barbarian(16): STR+1, (STR=23)
17: Barbarian(17)
18: Barbarian(18): Blind Fight
19: Barbarian(19)
20: Barbarian(20): CON+1, (CON=21)
21: Fighter(1): Epic Weapon Focus: Battleaxe, Epic Damage Reduction I
22: Fighter(2): Epic Damage Reduction II
23: Fighter(3)
24: Barbarian(21): STR+1, Terrifying Rage, (STR=24)
25: Barbarian(22)
26: Barbarian(23)
27: Rogue(1): Great Strength I, (STR=25)
28: Rogue(2): STR+1, {Evasion}, (STR=26)
29: Rogue(3)
30: Barbarian(24): Thundering Rage, Epic Damage Reduction III

Discipline 33, Heal 33, Intimidate 33, Lore 5, Spellcraft 16, Tumble 30, UMD 17, remaining skillpoints 23

This is how I'd personally build an EDR Dwarf, but you can do it differently, of course. Can grab a few more fighter levels for more feats and weapon specialization, or even go Barbarian 17 PDK 10 for party support. There's lots of room for customization.

Joe's Barbarian Weaponmaster build for Dwarves is another solid approach, here's a link for it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1P6t ... 3I8bM/edit

With that build you trade some survivability that a traditional Barbarian build offers you in exchange for dealing shit loads damage (Wild Dwarves twohanding a scimitar are specially good for this concept). I played a similar build on a human for a long time and it was a pretty fun experience. Also, if you're not into stealthy characters, you can drop most of those Rogue levels for more Barbarian ones. Again, there's enough room to tailor the character specifically to your play style. Also, do pay the PGCC a visit to check out what build is best for you.

If you're interested in the EDR route you can also do EDR Barb 17, CoT 10, Rogue 3

It still gets EDR 3, thundering and terrifying rage. It has higher saves and ab but a little less damage. I can write up a leveling path if you're interested.
