Goblin bard (not actaully called bard)

Post by malcolm_mountainslayer » Thu May 23, 2019 12:27 am

So i got a friend joining me as a goblin who is interested in doing some build revolving around high bard levels (multiclassed with monk and, or blackgaurd or not at all if that is preferable).

Reason im asking is the cookie cutter builds would be kind of crappy for a race that gets plus 2 dex and minus 2 str for a build that apparently starts with dex 8 and is str based. I mention possible use of monk levels because using a Katana (monk or not) might be cool fornceersin rp reasons i need not explain right now and plus 1d10s are nice. If katana is not practical, that is fine.

If you're willing to go Dex based, it might not be terrible. Could probably pick up all three of those classes, and also use Katanas. Katana is a finessable weapon on Arelith. It also works with monk attack progression.

I think somebody asked about a similar build, but with paladin, a few weeks back.

You can go 4 BG pre-epic to get more attacks a round, 3 monk whenever you'd like, for attack progression. Then just everything else bard. It won't be crazy good, but it should be able to stand on its own.
43 AB--45 with bardsong. 5 attacks a round, or 6 with flurry.
AC won't be great, 32 with no buffs. But you can pickup Expertise and use the standard retinue of UMD items to help with this.
Damage will kinda suck, but the multiple attacks a round will help this. 1d10+5+STR+Temp.Essence+Bardsong+Warcry? Add 1d6 sneak attack from BG. Roughly 20, maybe 23 if a sneak attack.
Dex based means you can be stealthy if you would like, too.
Hit-points around 442.
Base saves are good, because of spellcraft. 27 Fort, 28 Reflex, 19 Will; all +7 versus spells.

You'll contribute nicely to group encounters, and so long as what you're fighting isn't too far outside your level range, you can solo. As for PvP, your main shtick is still curse/song.

I, too, struggle to know what is written in books without first reading them.

You can make a perfectly competent strength-based bard/fighter/BG with a -2 strength race. It's really just 1 AB and damage point you're down, that's not a game changer. If that's the character they want to make they should make it.

Flurry doesn't work with katana.
You've done it [Garrbear], you've kicked the winemom nest. -Redacted

Thanks, after much discussion we determined he doesn't want to actaully melee so much. Going for a witch doctor feel. 17 bard/13 palemaster gets mummy dust and decently powerful.bard song and curse song. (Dracolich didnt fit rhe theme)

Also the cookie cutter bard palemaster build is based off old palemaster which had more ac and less other stuff.

10 Purple Dragon Knight/ 16 BG/ 4 rogue or bard is a great one for a new player that you might consider too.

That would be way too low in bard levels for what we want. He is not entirely new.
