Your animal companion is the majority of your damage. Look after it.

Go for GSF Conjuration if you don't have it. Stronger summons will help a lot.
Totem shape makes for a functional frontline, but it's a poor damage-dealer. Ultimately, the reason you take the totem path isn't really for the totem forms (they're so-so early, and late game they suck), but for the stat bonuses in monolith/dragon shape. On the flip side, you become much more vulnerable when not polymorphed; whether or not the trade off is worth it depends largely on your playstyle.

You can't do much to increase your own damage-- taking improved crit: unarmed might help a little, I guess.
Taking knockdown and expertise help you control a fight so your summons and companions can wail on them though. Druids get parry as a skill so investing in that can be situationally useful. You should really think of yourself as the leader of a little army, not the sole damage dealer.
Also if you're not using spells like grease and storm of vengeance you really should be, they work wonders. Divine wands too.
I find totems most useful for two things, aesthetics (a swarm of one animal type is very cool) and the instant action polymorph which is very good defensively.

I wish when they update the Druids, they'd tune up some of the more currently useless Totem Druids to give them synergy with appropriate multi-class or other options.
Maybe some skills or bonus feats...or other bonuses. For example;
Parrot Totem with Bard
Every X #of levels counts as Bard for the purposes of Bard Song, Bardic Lore & requirements for Lasting Inspiration.

Borderline unusable? All picking a totem does is lowers your base form stats. In exchange you get an instant action polymorph with crazy stats that you can perform while knocked down. It also makes levelling much easier.
Some of the totems can e even do some pretty nifty things. Rat, bat and eagle all have pretty cool bonuses.
