It doesnt really matter. You gotta end up with 14 dex and 12 wis. Organize it as you wish. You can also end up with 16 con and 10 wis if you value hp and fort save over 1 ac and wholeness of body multiplier. This spread in the build posted, however, is how I and some other builders think it works best.

Here's an idea for a Dex Monk 20 / WM 7 / Bard 3

Human:
Str 14 (16 Gift)
Dex 15 (17 Gift)
Con 12
Wis 14
Int 14
Cha 8

1~16: Monk 16
17~23: WM 7
24~27: Monk 20
28~30: Bard 3

Skills: Disc, Tumble, Listen, Parry, Spellcraft

Feats would almost be the same as listed from Astral's spread

Trade Improved Expertise for Weapon Finesse, Great Dexterity for Blinding Speed, and ESF: Disc for ESF: Parry.

Stats to juggle in between:
Dex: Main stat for both AB and AC
Str: Damage and carry weight
Wis: Will save and AC
Con: Fort save and HP

Craftable Equipments:
Masterly Damask Katana
Enchanted Fine Silk Shirt
Adamantine Bracer of Avoidance
Duelist's Cape
Fine Elven Boots

Commence the Weebocalypse!

Has anyone played around with a pure monk with Parry. I was thinking like a ju-jitsu theme dex build with pure monk. Max out parry and lean on the epic dodge feat for getting around the first round as sort of a one-on-one pvp master. The RP would be a sort of quixotic monk running around and challenging strangers to (potentially subdual to be nice) fights with the idea of a fighting style that used opponents strength against them.

I think the goal would be to take the Whirlwind feat cycle, WF unarmed, Finesse, Improved Parry, Armor Skin, ESF Parry, then either Epic Prowess and three spell resistance bonuses or four spell resistance bonuses to combat with mage duels.

Skills would max out parry, discipline, Tumble, Heal, and maybe some points into Hide or MS. There would be no dip for UMD.

Build might need some tweaking. You can drop Epic Prowess for ESF: Parry. Very difficult for you to max out 3 stats with no UMD. I recommend DEX/WIS. That means your max HP is going to be missing 180HP. Even with skleens, you might not even have +12 WIS.

Another question about the 20/7/3 build. What are thoughts on a Bard dip instead of a Rogue dip? Wouldn't have to cross-class for Spellcraft, and would get access to a not great, but still helpful Bard song-- at the expense of sneak attack. Does SA work through Rogue levels or player levels?

It's not a huge difference on this build. you already have evasion, uncanny dodge, decent saves (due to the fact you get 3 primary saves as a monk and you can entirely neglect will save) so rogue gives sneak and bard gives access to taunt. That's all the big difference really.

If playing non-human, which feat would be most expendable? IE? Great Str?

If you play half-elf you get Dodge for free so you dont expend any feat.

If you any other race this build is not relevant because there would be many changes required to it, not just one less feat. Expending improved expertise or great strength are your worst choices in this build. The least of all evils is to give up epic skill discipline and take improved expertise on that feat slot instead but it's not recommended.

I think it really depends on the race and their ability bonuses/penalties. If you can start with 19 str you wouldn't need or want Great Strength.

Is gearing as straight forward as STR/CON? Or do we try and toss in WIS considering stuff like craftable monk cloth.

For leveling up, you might need the ac so greaing str/wis is fine but eventually you will need Con almost as much as wis if not more. I'd save Con for 5% and/or runic items.

The monk-katana synergy is an absolute joke. Somebody stop this madness.

It's not the item I said it for, necessarily. Although, a use/day free 110 damage on non-dexers is not that bad. Compare it to Greater Ruin, which sits at 167.5 damage average. Now, this is less damage and there's a roll to be made still, but it's a touch attack and that's guaranteed to hit versus certain builds, and it's on an item, that can be used by anyone. Not an epic feat that requires you to be an epic caster.

But yeah, it's not that 110 damage compares to 6 apr 1d10 13-20/3x at... 21 base + 14 str + 4 feats + 3 weapon + 3 ki strikes + 1 wm = 46 AB. That's not counting any other potential buffs to AB (e.g., aid, prayer, you name it) or the extra attacks from haste and whirlwind.

What is a build that doesn't need half-elf then? Non-30, post-patch monk builds have been asked for multiple times in the discord but it seems no one has stepped forward besides this.

First of all this build is 20 monk 7 wm 3 rogue (or bard). It is not a pure monk build.

Second, this build is the same for human and half-elf because human gets extra feat but half-elf gets dodge for free, so it's the same thing.

Third, there's no need for a written build for 30 monk. You get most of the essential feats for free. You just need to remember to pick up expertise, improved expertise, weapon finesse (if dex based) and blind fight and do whatever you want for your remaining feats (probably the 3 two-weapon fighting related feats and toughness as your last pre-epic feat if human). It's also recommended to take 3 Improved SR feats to be nearly immune to spells. These things were said on discord and on these forums many times.

Generic noob question. If SR is so high, why bother with blind fight?

I misread xD

There's always 20 monk 5 rogue (or assassin) 5 shadow dancer. My personal favorite from before the monk buffs. I'd say this build is still the most reliable monk build exist but it still pretty low in offense in pvp. It's really hard to kill, though.

SR is relevant when a spell is cast on you. Its not relevant when a target has 50% concealment from improved invisibility and blind fight still effectively reduces it to 25%.

How should one build a monk that wants to do well in pvp? Or should I look elsewhere?

You best ask the Git Gud green people in the discord but imo the best pvp monk right now is that monk wm build above.
