Hello there.
I have a Fighter/WM character and plan to add some Rogue levels. On one hand it creates wide opportunities and versatility for a character, but on the other hand there's not enough skill points to get everything useful. Some skills have to be lower or even left untrained. UMD and Tumble seem like no-brainer choices, but there's uncertainty with other skills. Maybe it's unnecessary to max Open Lock keeping in mind there's always 20 added to check in normal conditions and also Thieve's Tools can be used for some rare occasions. Disable Trap can be useless without high enough Search. You get the idea.
I'm not experienced Arelith player, so it's hard for me to know in advance what DC's are usual on higher levels. If you are with good knowledge of mechanics here, please help me with points distribution.
There's an example for level 17 and 30:
(already invested at this point)
Heal 10
Lore 10
Intimidate 4
Discipline 10
Level 17
Heal 10
Lore 10
Intimidate 4
Discipline 10
Tumble 20
UMD 20
Open Lock 20
Search 20
Disable Trap 1
Level 30
Heal 10
Lore 10
Intimidate 4
Discipline 20
Disable Trap 23
Open Lock 30
Search 20
Spot 20
Tumble 30
UMD 32 (-2 modifier)
There's also an opportunity to take Epic Skill Focus feat once on level close to 30, if needed.

Less disable trap/open lock, max disc + epic skill focus disc. You really want as much disc as you can get on a melee character

You also don't need more than 15 UMD unless there's a specific high-UMD item you're going for. 20 before ability mod will be plenty for wands and scrolls.
Spot, so far as I can tell, is kinda all-or-nothing. Moderate spot investment will have fairly minimal gains.
To elaborate on open lock/disable trap: It's fairly easy to get a set of gear enchanted with +2 open lock/+2 disable trap. Depending on how much you feel like stripping naked in the middle of a dungeon, you could get up to +22 open lock/disable trap if you used all 11 equipment slots.

Well, there's one item with UMD requirement of 30 that I would like to wield - Dwarven Rune Axe. Didn't see any other. Something to think about.Baron Saturday wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 7:25 amYou also don't need more than 15 UMD unless there's a specific high-UMD item you're going for. 20 before ability mod will be plenty for wands and scrolls.
+22 sounds good. But what number will be good for medium and high levels counting 20roll+items+skill? Is 30 enough for middle levels and 50 for high levels? To elaborate on open lock/disable trap: It's fairly easy to get a set of gear enchanted with +2 open lock/+2 disable trap. Re: Need help with skill distribution
You need to max out discipline and try to get gear that gives +2 discipline also. This is important to keep you from getting constantly knocked down or disarmed. You also want to get the feat Epic Skill Focus: Discipline at level 27. With that feat and the right gear you can get over 60 discipline which will make you near impossible to knock down or disarm.
Re: Need help with skill distribution
Remove enough search->spot->OL->DT, depending on if this is a dex build.
Max disc and take the disc e.feat.
Max heal. Heal has second importance after disc.
You can achieve 27 search via items unmoded.
P.C
Redo the PC, remove int, lore etc, and take cross spellcraft for extra saves. With items you can achieve very relevant numbers.
Imho.
