"Natural Areas" for Ranger Hiding?

Post by hrothgar_bloodaxe » Thu Sep 20, 2018 1:32 am

Hello everyone,

On the Ranger wiki page ( http://wiki.arelith.com/Ranger ), it says that level 16 rangers can perform Hide in Plain Sight in "natural areas." Unfortunately, I can't seem to figure out what, exactly qualifies as a "natural area." Is it just forest locations? Or simply any non-urban setting? If anyone knows how to find this out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Natural/Artificial, Interior/Exterior, and Above Ground/Underground are all flags set in the NWN toolset. As long as you're not underground, one way to tell if you're in a natural-flagged area is to check if the ranger Trackless Step bonus to Hide/MS is applying, since it only applies when you're in areas flagged as both natural and above ground. Unfortunately, there's no other easy way to tell if the area you're in is natural, so you've pretty much got to rely on experience and best judgement. If you encounter an area that you think SHOULD be flagged as natural but isn't, drop a note in the Bug forum.

Excellent, thank you for the help! I suppose I'll have to keep a tight watch on my hide skill.

after you get to level 16, you get a massage in the combat log every time you enter a area if you hips works in that area or not.

Oh. Well that's awesome. Let's add that to the wiki.

in the list of Natural/Artificial, Interior/Exterior, and Above Ground/Underground...

Does that mean that it doesn't matter if it is interior/exterior or above ground/underground and the only flag that matters is natural/artificial?

basically i'm hoping for a clarification of general area's that are, or are not considered natural.

Cause if the entirety of the UD is not counted as "natural" that means all UD'ers will be missing out on the ability and may not realize it when planning to pick a ranger build.

Agreed, it seems strange to me that underground automatically equals "not natural".

A large amount of the UD counts as "natural areas" for rangers, I have found.
