Bard/pdk/blackguard is possible?

Post by Ioria92 » Sat Sep 15, 2018 8:28 am

I was thinking about a super party buffer/summoner. 7bard/7pdk/16blackguard. Gets the epic fiendish summon, and good buffs by bard song and pdk. Sounds good or totally a waste?

You're probably better off going 4/10/16 Bard/PDK/Blackguard, Knight Valiant gets some really nice stuff at 10 PDK and the difference between 4 and 7 bard isn't that large.

Arelith changed it. The only requirement is having Skill Focus: Discipline.

Bard (or warlock, for the flavor) 4/PDK 10/BG 16 is not only possible, it's actually quite strong. The focus is your summon, which can be incredibly beefy (especially if you go Protector, in which case you can give it an extra 30% DI). Main issue I ran into with this build is that it's rather tight on feats.

I'd probably suggest rogue over bard. On a high saves build, evasion is tasty.

True dat. It's not like you need bard for a disc dump!

I like the rogue4 PDK 10 BG 16 better.

The downside is you don't get armor or proficiencies until about level 10. I hope you like being in 8 dex studded leather with a rapier until then. Also level 27-29 for your last rogue level, you'll want to cry as you wait for tumble to kick in.

I'd max PDK first, the abilities are super great to have early on, I just picked up 3 BG and 4th early to get might and shield, and maxed out BG last. Having Final Stand and 7th level Inspire on Protector ASAP is super important, you'll stop entire party wipes.

Hyper feat tight. Build does not work as non human. Can't fit exotic weapon. Strongly suggest a racial weapon if possible.

Both Valiant and Protector are good for it, I think protector is better to make the pet hyper survivable.

Personally, I suggest a Blade of Roses. Between that and Templar Armor, you've got +5 Cha and you're pretty much set there.

Works really well with the demon summons, especially the balor with its biteback damage. Fully buffed, with Heroic Shield + Protector's Inspire Courage, the balor's got a whopping 55% physical DI. Once you pop Final Stand, it's also got 50% elemental DI. Protector would probably be my pick for PvP.

Valiant is also nice, can give it an extra 3 AB and 8 damage. Summon tankiness isn't as relevant in PvE, since you can manage how much aggro it takes by toggling Ward on and off, so that's where Valiant comes into play more.

Also, while I know it's hardly optimal, I did quite enjoy starting the build as warlock. Having a 'lock summon to use PDK abilities on while you grind up to BG levels made the whole process much less aggravating. Plus, glowy eyes! Who doesn't want their blackguard to have flaming eyes, amirite? But mechanically, in the long run, rogue is definitely better.

Orog seems like the optimal race as you'd get +4 str, +2 cha and power attack for free towards divine feats, not to mention damage immunities and +1 AC. Rogue is indeed the most synergistic base class, netting 7d6 SA in total.
