Ogre Fighter/Blackguard?

Post by Petrifictus » Mon Aug 27, 2018 2:25 pm

Hello! Rolled Ogre as reward and I've this idea to make a Blackguard in the service of Bane maybe.

I'm not great with super builds as I level up my characters based on their journey as roleplayer.
But having rare ogre as playable race, I want something good so I wont later end up being unhappy.

I guess it makes sense to take Ogre exclusive "Gift of Magi" to get some charisma.

So what kind of stats I would be good to give when I make the ogre? I was thinking to have at least Int 12 if possible as it would be neat to learn one language.

You most definitely want at least 13 INT for expertise/improved expertise.

I still think an orog makes a much better blackgaurd. Your olus 4 cha from gift of magi just counters the minus you already have whilengiving you only plus 4 str (orog has) minus 4 dex (orog has only minus 2) and lets not even get into the minus 4 intelligence (which is the equivalent of a human putting 17 into intelligence for combat expertise).

Trying the emulate the cookie cutter blCkgaurd build with an ogre is going to be terrible time if you ask me. Not that you cant. I just think trying to have both a good intelligence and cha score as an ogre is insanity. Now gift of magi and something like a warlock isnt too insane as warlock dont need combat expertise or high dex and the ogre still give plus 2 ac. Personally i think capitalizing on their normal plus 6 str and breaking people's ac caps with the option of two handing or sword and boarding a greatsword (or suitable two handeable weapon like a trident) is the way to go though.

Would fighter/weapon master be better option then?

Nevermind, pure fighter is most safest and easier to me. Thank you all for the help.

Well weapon master is still decent because you will probably still want combst expertise (maybe pure barbarian could be an ezception to this rule) pure fighter is going to be costly on your ac losing out on 6 for tumble. (And if you dont have combat expertise on top of that, your ac will be so low.) And lots of utility loss with no umd. I was just suggesting that trying to have positive charisma and intelligence at same time will be challenging as a melee based character as an ogre.

Fighter25-6/Bard or Rogue4-5 offers some cool things. I guess it all depends on your starting stats on how I would play it. If you want to shoot me a pm with your current levels, raw skill point investment, and base stats I’m happy to help you tune it up.

Edit: feats too

Well I was given few options from friends. I see how fighter/blackguard would be difficult but could someone throw some build example about it for the ogre too?

1. Weapon Master
"Half-orc AB-centric twohander WM that still nets overwhelming critical.

19 STR(21 post-gift), 13 DEX, 14 CON, 8 WIS, 12 INT(14 post-gift), 6 CHA

Take STR at every 4th level attribute increase throughout leveling up.

1. fighter - weapon focus, dodge, power attack(horcs get this feat for free)
2. fighter - mobility
3. fighter - expertise
4. fighter - weapon spec
5. fighter
6. fighter - spring attack, whirlwind
7. WM
8. WM
9. WM - improved critical
10. WM
11. WM
12. WM - cleave
13. WM
14. fighter
15. fighter - blind fight, great cleave
16. fighter
17. fighter - knockdown
18. WM - improved knockdown
19. WM
20. WM
21. WM - epic weapon focus
22. WM
23. WM - overwhelming critical
24. fighter - epic weapon spec
25. WM
26. WM
27. rogue - g. strength I
28. rogue
29. rogue
30. WM - g. strength II, epic prowess

Can be re-tuned to work just fine with a wood elf or orog too. A word of warning being that it's very starved on skillpoints and netting only the bare essentials in that regard. Can also re-jig the feat order to accomodate exotic profiency and thusly a scythe, with the end result being a loss of improved knockdown.

The general selling point of the build being a monstrously high sustained AB, without surrendering the WM per-crit burst of overwhelming critical."

2. Barbarian/Fighter/Rogue
17 barb/ 10 fighter/ 3 rogue.
starting attribute: (after ogre stats)
str: 16 (22)
dex: 8 (6)
con 16 (18)
Int: 16 (12)
wis: 8
char: 8 (4)

First bonus attribute at lvl 4 into intelligence for expertise feats etc.

end attributes:
str: 25
con: 21
int: 13

Notes: Aim to max con or str first depending on if you want Epic Damage Reduction early or Thundering Rage.
PRE EPIC:
Leveling: 15 barb, 5 fighter.
10 feats:
Main Feats
weapon focus, imp critical, expertise, imp expertise, toughness, knockdown, imp knockdown, blind fight.

Optional
weapon spec, Save bonus feat.

15 barb, 5 fighter.
POST EPIC (after lvl 20)
5 fighter, 3 rogue, 2 barb.
Feats:

3 Fighter bonus feats: 3 Epic Damage reduction. (swap one for epic weapon spec OR epic weapon focus (-> so you can grab extra str feat on a feat level for Epic Strength)

Feat levels: epic weapon focus, AC feat, terrifying rage, thundering rage.

Notes: you will need to use the two left over barb levels on a feat level to grab thudnering and terrifying rage. Plan ahead so you will have the requirements in time.

Skills:
disc: max
intimidation: max
Tumble: 30
UMD: 17 or 13. (you want 10 or 15 in game, you can get items to boost this up too aslong as you have some skills points into it)

Optional: Max taunt (recommended for 5 extra effective ab) or play around with the rest for fun.

I kind of like the weapon master one as an ogre you can two hand or sword board a two hander. I might consider the weapon master build in build dump on discord and then take something trident. If you are going to invest in having 13 intelligence, id go forcookie cutter weaponmaster that has a teo hander weapon instead of scimitar. I wish i had an ogre so i could do some unmeta build lol (since no one rolls low intelligence characters anymore)

I take it ogres have no special weapons or armor and can't use orog stuff.
