Paladin Skill Points

Post by rat0a » Wed Jun 20, 2018 12:01 pm

I been stingy this time with my skills points on this one to the very end

My new Paladin is going to reach level 29 soon so I'm looking for advice:

I been holding up because my characters are long investment for me and I don't like to go back 10 levels to fix something because of a change on the server, been burned twice already.

Build: Paladin, Fighter, Rouge
remaining skill points at level 29 =83

What I have done so far
Dicipline 1 points each level
Taunt 19
Tumble 30
Healing 17 not optimal I can do 40 healing with the +1 healing kit

Now for sure I'm going to place

Spellcarft 30 points
UMD 5 with that I can reach 10 with gear and unless am I missing something I don't need to go to 15

Now for the question

My options
Level 29 Rouge
Spot: I had never done one ever in 7 years playing here, is that even worth without listen? I have the hunter gift +2 bonus

Level 30 Paladin

Concentration: Again never used that skill before and I don't think it will be good for me

Ride: PR purposes

Taunt: Can do High around 27 to 29 with buffs

General skill Healing

Let me know your toughts

Spot can be used to seen through those evil disguises and is usefull without listen. (you roll vs enemies hide)
Your wisdom should further enhance your spot rolls.
There are a lot of sneaking enemies you can engage before they can sneak attack you. (my rogue is shooting em while my party is confused a bout what is going on as they cant spot)
The hunter gift is +6 spot (unless you have an older iteration) so would combine niceley.

You can use concentration if you want to resist taunts. (so pvp use only i think)

Taunt can be good with your paladin charisma, you can reduce the AC of an enemy without concentration by a lot.

You should read this: http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Taunt

A good taunt can cost your enemy 6 ac or if you go concentration save you 6 ac.

Keep in mind that the bonus to save vs. spells from spellcraft includes not only the ranks in the skill, like tumble, but all other bonuses as well like intelligence modifier or boosts from gear. Therefore I don't see any particular reason why you'd have to get exactly 30 ranks, as your build doesn't qualify for or need automatic quicken spell feats.

Now if you're certain to get a bonus of 5, 10, 15, etc. then it makes sense.

Yes I do have the new hunter gift with 6 + 2 from wisdom, because I had never used that skill I was under the impression listen was need it as well

Taunt: I had used this one before with my two smitter Paladins but how much is enough? I think I can reach to 40 with around 10 point investment. but to be honest with my other Paladins I did quite well with just around low 30's

Yes, I'm using it so I can have the bonus + enchanted gear

Going spot is a fine choice due to the true sight/stealth changes. I opted for listen on my own paladin, but some sort of detection skill is pretty important these days.

Also you'll only be able to cross-class spellcraft, taking it to sixteen and then having your int and gear round it out is the best option there
