THE ESSENTIAL COOKIE-CUTTER BUILD GUIDE

Post by Dr. B » Wed May 02, 2018 11:40 pm

DISCLAIMER: As of 10/14/2019, Arelith's mechanics have been given an extensive overhaul, and these builds may not be up to date. I am not sure when or whether I will be updating it to reflect the new changes, and it is possible and perhaps likely that I will not be updating it at all. The forum moderators might consider un-stickying it if it sees no updates in the coming weeks or months.

***

ARCANE ARCHER
Elf, 19/6/5 Arcane Archer/Monk/Bard (Very quick with decent AC and high Hide/MS; must be lawful)

BARBARIAN
21/6/3 Barbarian/Fighter/Rogue (One handed, gets both thundering and terrifying rage, benefits from masterly elven chain)

BARD
25/5 Fighter/Bard “Battlebard” (tanky, with relatively decent melee capability and access to bard spells; excellent party support role with powerful, long-lasting song)
20/6/4 Bard/Fighter/Paladin “Bardadin” (Superior melee fighter and party support tank, high saves, powerful bard song, though buff reliant and a bit vulnerable to dispels). An evil variant exchanges blackguard levels for Paladin.

BLACKGUARD
11 Fighter/3 Rogue/16 Blackguard (standard Blackguard build, access to epic fiendish servant, tanky with good damage output and saves)
8/17/5 Fighter/Blackguard/Rogue (Similar to the above but with more skill points, sneak attack damage, and summon power; -1 to AB, AC, and HP)
20/6/4 Fighter/Bard/Blackguard (Superior melee fighter and party support tank, high saves, powerful bard song, though buff reliant and a bit vulnerable to dispels). Replace the 4 Paladin levels with 4 Blackguard.
21/4/3 Fighter/Blackguard Rogue. See here: take 4 Blackguard instead of 4 Paladin.

CLERIC

27/3 Cleric/Bard "Caster Cleric". (Plays like a mage, useful in a party support role. See the build notes about going Healer path.)
27/3 Cleric/Bard "Battlecleric". Tanky and buff-reliant; achieves high AC and AB with access to level 9 cleric spells.
30 Cleric "Pure Healer". Protects itself with a high-DC sanctuary spell while spamming heals. Excellent in a support role. Must take Healer path and Protection Domain powers for the build to function as intended.

DRUID
30 Druid "EDR Druid" (Courtesy of Sen) (Easy to solo, achieves Epic Damage reduction, Dragonshape, and Monolithic Shape)

FIGHTER
20/7/3 Fighter/Weapon Master/Rogue "Str WM" (Superb damage output, high critical threat range, reasonably tanky, low will saves, recommended for novice players; very powerful in PvP if played well, most effective with a scimitar or rapier; elven versions will prefer a moonblade)
10/7/13 Fighter/Weapon Master/Rogue "Dex WM" (Reasonably tanky, strong against sneak-vulnerable foes, access to epic dodge, stealthy, lackluster will saves; can benefit from parry)
10/4/16 Fighter/Bard/Pale Master "Melee PM" (Very hard to kill, with the highest AC in game and immunity to critical hits, access to a Dracolich and Epic Mage Armor, though with slightly lackluster offensive capability; a bit tedious to level but shines late-game, requires a roleplay rating of 20)
23/4/3 Fighter/Paladin/Rogue "Brycer" (Strength/charisma based fighter with superior saving throws and AC; solid damage output, though not as high as Str WM). Can exchange Paladin levels for Blackguard.
11/16/3 Fighter/Blackguard/Rogue (standard Blackguard build, access to epic fiendish servant, tanky with good damage output and saves)

MONK
20/10 Monk Rogue "E-dodge Monk" (Nigh impossible to kill, with epic dodge, fast movement speed and superb AC, but has lackluster offensive capability)
19/6/5 Rogue/Monk/Fighter "Kamarogue" (Capable of achieving ten attacks per round with high sneak damage, access to a wide variety of rogue skills and epic dodge, somewhat fragile, though made better by the recent rogue update)
19/6/5 AA/Monk/Bard (Does not do as much damage as some other AA builds, but very quick with decent AC and high Hide/MS)

PALADIN
23/4/3 Paladin/Fighter/Rogue or Bard "Ye olde paladin build" (Strength and charisma based, similar in nature to Brycer and Blackguard, but with access to Paladin spells; chance to dispel foes on-hit with Holy Sword)
23/4/3 Fighter/Paladin/Rogue "Brycer" (Strength/charisma based fighter with superior saving throws and AC; solid damage output, though not as high as Str WM)
20/6/4 Bard/Fighter/Paladin “Bardadin” (Superior melee fighter and party support tank, high saves, powerful bard song, though buff reliant and a bit vulnerable to dispels)

PALE MASTER
10/4/16 Fighter/Bard/Pale Master "Melee PM" (Very hard to kill, with the highest AC in game and immunity to critical hits, access to a Dracolich and Epic Mage Armor, though with slightly lackluster offensive capability; a bit tedious to level but shines late-game, requires a roleplay rating of 20)

RANGER
21/6/3 Ranger/Fighter/Bard "Str Ranger" (Strength-based, melee-oriented, strong vs. favored enemies; access to ranger spells and Ranger's Runic Studded Leather)
23/4/3 Ranger/Fighter/Bard "Elven Archer". Follows similar principles as the above, but swaps strength for dex as the main stat and uses a longbow.

ROGUE
24/6 Rogue/Fighter "Cookie-cutter rogue" (Standard rogue, made better by the recent rogue update, lots of skill points with access to many skills, high sneak attack damage, access to epic dodge lackluster will and fortitude saves)
19/6/5 Rogue/Monk/Fighter "Kamarogue" (Capable of achieving ten attacks per round with high sneak damage, access to a wide variety of rogue skills and epic dodge, somewhat fragile, though made better by the recent rogue update)
10/7/13 Fighter/Weapon Master/Rogue "Dex WM" (Reasonably tanky, strong against sneak-vulnerable foes, access to epic dodge, stealthy, lackluster will saves; can benefit from parry)

SORCERER

A guide to several builds, including a Paladin Dip (which can be substituted with Blackguard) and a Pale Master variant.

SPELLSWORD
27/3 Wizard/Bard (Tanky, with level 9 spells)

WEAPON MASTER
20/7/3 Fighter/Weapon Master/Rogue "Str WM" (Superb damage output, high critical threat range, reasonably tanky, low will saves, recommended for novice players; very powerful in PvP if played well, most effective with a scimitar or rapier; elven versions will prefer a moonblade)
10/7/13 Fighter/Weapon Master/Rogue "Dex WM" (Reasonably tanky, strong against sneak-vulnerable foes, access to epic dodge, stealthy, lackluster will saves; can benefit from parry)

WARLOCK

Abyssal/Infernal Pact (Con based, pureclass, Epic Damage Reduction III)
Fey Pact (Cha based, BG dip, Divine shield, high spell DCs, AC, and saves)

WIZARD
26/4 Wizard/Bard "Vanilla wizard" (Your standard wizard build with access to a number of Epic Spells and Epic Spell Focuses for RP perks, lots of feats, high skill points thanks to its intelligence, high spell DC's)
Wild Mage: Same as above, but selects the "Wild Mage" path upon character creation. Some are content to go 26/4, others take 30 wizard levels to get perfect wild surges, though you will have no discipline; only go this route if you think you can avoid getting knocked down.

Thank you for this!

I'm currently working on the cookie-cutter rogue build: Rogue 24 / Fighter 6. I notice fighter levels are taken at 4, 5, 6, 7, 23, and 29. When should I start putting ranks into Discipline?

What I was thinking was putting the usual rogue ranks at rogue-levels and once I pick a fighter level forego the rogue ranks and dump all points into Discipline. For example at levels 4, 5, 6, 7, 23, and 29 all skill points go into Discipline. Would this be optimal or is there a certain level where all points should go into the skill, as in dump all ranks into Discipline at level 29?

You should absolutely max out discipline as often as possible.
