Unless you have a squad of gonne wielders with you, in which case you can quickly obliterate most things on the server.

Enough gonnes solves any problem.Baron Saturday wrote:The counterplay is a hitsquad of monks with gonnes.

Re: Crossbow build
Alright, so i simply make a fighter:Baron Saturday wrote:Don't get too excited! The damage they deal is actually pretty low compared to most builds, and the ammo is fairly limited. I'd highly recommend making a spear-focused character who has a gonne as a backup weapon, rather than a gonne-only character.
Take some spear feats
Should i use a shield? i guess i have to
I get a gonner, and then i am good to roll.
So which feats is important for a gonner, to be heavily focused on being a good gonner.

Re: Crossbow build
There aren't any. That's the thing about gonnes - once you hit level 13 and can use them, there's nothing you can do to make them more effective. A level 30 character with a gonne will do the same damage as a level 13 character with a gonne. You want to put a fire resistant essence on some piece of equipment and have a halfway decent reflex save, so that it doesn't hurt too much when the gonne sets you on fire, and you want a high BAB so that you can hit stuff. But you want those things anyway, so that's not specific to using a gonne!

Re: Crossbow build
Monk speed / levels will make you a good gonne user, as well as Bab!
Thankfully this team is no longer being used.

Re: Crossbow build
Alright!
Now i just wonder if my fighter can two-hand a spear, or if it has to be a spear and a shield.
Also what armor is the best
And if you guys know the feats i should take first/ What stats to pick at the start. i am set to go
Anyone know a spear build, please link them to me.

Re: Crossbow build
From my experience with Fighters I would highly recommend a shield as extra AC makes it so much easier to survive. Same reason Expertise and later improved expertise are both must have feats.
Other core feats weapon focus and wp specialisation along with Blindfight and Knockdown. Others like improved saving throws are nice to haves.
You want full plate and upgrade to Adamantine as soon as possible.
For stats get 14 INT probably same or higher in CON and the rest into STR with all level up points in into STR (and you may want 13DEX if you want to go Weapon Master).

Would you recommend putting points in weapon master as a spearman?Lost in the dark wrote:From my experience with Fighters I would highly recommend a shield as extra AC makes it so much easier to survive. Same reason Expertise and later improved expertise are both must have feats.

Re: Crossbow build
Here - the classic 20 Fighter/7 Weapon Master/3 Rogue build. I recommend the All-Around WM with Strength and Con gifts. Full plate, tower shield. Spear isn't the BEST weapon for that build, because the really good spears have class and race requirements, but it should still be okay.
Weapon master is generally a worthwhile investment for any fighter.

Re: Crossbow build
I'm just not really sure about it yet
I do want a build heavily focused on crossbows, more than anything.
Doesn't matter if he's a rogue. I just want a human with a crossbow

Re: Crossbow build
Here's what I would do - and it's not optimal, but it does have the virtue of simplicity.
Fighter 4/Rogue 11/Champion of Torm 15 (Fighter 4/Rogue 6/CoT 10 pre-epic)
STR 14
DEX 16+2 gift
CON 12+2 gift
INT 14
WIS 10
CHA 10
1(Fighter) - Expertise, Weapon Finesse
2(F2) - Weapon Focus: Rapier/Short Sword
3(F3)
4(Rogue 1) - Dex +1
5(R2)
6(R3) - Rapid Reload
7(R4)
8(R5) - Dex +1
9(R6) - WF: Heavy Crossbow
10(F4) - Weapon Specialization: Heavy Crossbow
11(Champion of Torm 1)
12(CoT2) - Point Blank Shot, Blind Fight, Dex +1
13(CoT3)
14(CoT4) - Called Shot
15(CoT5) -
16(CoT6) - Improved Expertise, Dex +1
17(CoT7)
18(CoT8) - Knockdown, Improved Critical: Heavy Crossbow
19(CoT9)
20(CoT10) - Improved Knockdown, Dex +1
21(CoT11)- Epic Weapon Focus: Heavy Crossbow
22(CoT12) - Epic Weapon Specialization: Heavy Crossbow
23(R7)
24(R8) - Armor Skin, Dex +1
25(R9)
26(R10)
27(R11) - Epic Skill Focus: Discipline
28(CoT13) - Dex +1
29(CoT14) - Epic Prowess
30(CoT15) - Great Dexterity
Key skills will be discipline, tumble, UMD. Crossclass spellcraft. Hide/Move Silently and Heal are always nice.
Gear-wise, have a rapier/short sword and tower or large shield on hand for when you need them. You'll probably start out with chain shirt or leather armor, but you'll end up wearing cloth once your dex gets over 26. End-game gear would be adamantine helmet, enchanted fine silk shirt, grand masterly heavy crossbow, and fine elven boots. For rings/amulet/belt/gloves/cloak, you'll want 3 of those enchanted with +1 dex & con, and the other 3 with +1 str & con.
For damage, you've got +6 from WS/EWS, +7 when using CoT's Divine Wrath, and +6d6 sneak attack. If you can get your str up to 22 for +6, you're looking at ~45 damage on a sneak attack, with just normal crossbow bolts. Final AB (with a basic heavy crossbow) of 48 while Divine Wrath is active.

Re: Crossbow build
Just thought but if you swap two COT levels for two rogue levels you can get Epic Dodge which has to be a bonus?

Re: Crossbow build
You could do that, in fact I thought about it, but you're sacrificing 2 AB/damage/saves from Divine Wrath, not to mention the Divine Wrath DR drops from 10/+4 to 5/+3. If the character was intended to be in melee combat all the time, I'd do that, but with a ranged character? Nah. This build can already hit like 64 AC if it needs to go on the defensive.Lost in the dark wrote:Just thought but if you swap two COT levels for two rogue levels you can get Epic Dodge which has to be a bonus?
