Gifts & Character Creation

Hi. Curious how gifts work. On a duergar with a normal award (-2 ECL), can I grab 3 gifts? My thought was that duergar is + 1 ECL then normal award is -2 so... i would be able to take 3, +1 ECL gifts... Like +2 wis, +2 con, and +2 in? But, I guess that may not be how it works. When I made a test it made me pick gifts before using the award and I only could take +2 wis and a lesser gift. THanks for any help!

Awards don't let you pick more gifts, it's ingrained into the base ECL of the character.

This chart will tell you how many gifts you can take, based on your subrace.
