Undead Hunting Caster Cleric

Post by Lost in the dark » Sun Dec 17, 2017 5:35 pm

I am toying with the concept of an undead hunting pure caster of either Lathander or Kelemvor. So the question is can you build an effective undead hunting cleric with a big kick Snuggybear turn undead ability or in game it is just not potent enough? Thoughts for build would be:-

Cleric (Healer) (25) / Harper Priest (5)
Human
Domains:- Lathander: Sun and Good? or Kelemvor : Protection and War?
STR 10
DEX 8
CON 14
WIS 15+2+7 end 24 (Perm 30 ish with equipment + temp buff)
INT 14
CHA 15 +2+1 Gr CHA =18 (Perm 24 with equipment +temp buff)

Feats
1 c(1) SF Conj, Gr SF Conj
3 c(2) Extra Turning
6 c(6) Iron WIll
9 c(9) Alertness
12 c(12) SF Transmutation
15 c (15) Gr SF Transmutation
18 c (18) Extend Spell
21 HP (1) Bonus +1 CHA, Epic SF Conj
24 HP (3) SF Abj
26 C (23) Bonus Epic Trans
27 C (24) Arcane Defense
29 HP (5) Bonus Epic SF Discipline
30 c (25) Epic Spell – Dragon Knight

Skills: Heal, concentration, discipline 33 ranks. Spellcraft and Tumble 30 ranks.
Comments, improvements and observations welcome.

I would encourage you to drop your con for 13 str, then drop your transmutation line of feats for power attack, divine shield, and divine might (in that order).

Getting hit 35% less is worth more than 60 HP, IMO, especially on a cleric that can cast heal/g.resto.
Bane's tyranny is known throughout the continent, and his is the image most seen as the face of evil.

It's a caster cleric, Transmutation focuses for empowered buffs would absolutely be more valuable than Divine might/shield.

Instead of taking harper priest, taking harper paragon. No need to altar your stat spread for divine feats.

You're right. Participating in the forums was a mistake. Won't do this again.

Also teleporting is awesome.

Harper Priest was chosen for the +3 turning DC and for all the extra caster levels counting to the turn DC. With Harper Paragon its not clear if the caster levels will boost the turning check.

Just remember turning PC undead, unless a lot higher level then they are, is nearly impossible. I enjoy turning undead builds, just don't go into it thinking you are going to repel pc summoned undead.

Turning undead is really not the best way to be an undead hunter. Instead, load up on Heal, Mass Heal, and other spells to wreck them.

http://nwn.wikia.com/wiki/Turn_undead
Turn undead is..well..not as useful as described in the feat description.
Standard caster or melee cleric that RP a undead hunter will do you better, don't forget you have to lvl the build and be somewhat versatile overall if possible.

If you must go TU way at least replace: 6 c(6) Iron WIll, 9 c(9) Alertness;
with divine shield and take SF abj in pre epics. Also take; Arcane defense -> AS.
With 10/14 str, divine might is useless, since it is better to have more AC more times if you not melee. With the extra epic feat(you moved SF abj to to pre epics), take ESF conj.
Start with 14 wis and 14 cha, allocate 14 str, with GSF trans+some items you can melee pve, not to mention that 10str allows very low carry amount and you have full plate and tower shield.
For someone that takes SF trans, I don't see not empowered nor maximized, Is that intended design? Maybe also get read of SF abj and take emp or max?
