State of Poison

Post by Dalenger » Thu Nov 16, 2017 7:36 pm

I'm considering running a char that uses poisons, but haven't really heard any noise about them on the forums or ig. Of course they can't carry a build, but are they something worth using, or generally simply subpar and not worth the effort/cost? Even the best DCs on the wiki don't seem to get past the late 20s/early 30s, which any mob or well build PC will laugh off.

They're not bad. Bear in mind they last for 10 minutes. That's a lot of time for your opponents to roll a 1.

Contrary to peppermint's assertion that they aren't bad, they're pretty bad. Most PvP will last a minute at most, the majority of the time, you won't have time to apply a poison. All mobs you'd want to use poison against have saves well beyond what the poison DC is, and if you can kill them without the poison, there isn't much use using the poison against them in the first place. If you can't kill them without the poison, odds are very high they'll kill you long before they roll a 1 on the save.

Tldr; Any time you might want to use a poison, you're banking on 5% chance of triggering per round(at best) in fights that will generally only last a matter of moments. Your time applying the poison is better spent putting a temporary essence on your blade 90% of the time. The only time its a good idea to use poison is if your are playing...

A) An archer.
B) A very high AC character with a very low chance of being hit(your enemy needs low AC you can hit reliably, else it won't be effective. You'll need to hit almost every round to trigger the save often enough to get the poison to stick at all, and unless your damage is terrible, it probably doesn't matter.)
C) A character that is grossly overleveled for killing another PC, where you are easily getting the poison and your opponent doesn't have high saves(See: Mass PvP battle event/raid/settlement assault)
D) A really low level character that is a dex build(so you don't poison yourself), that is given the poison by a higher level character to be used against lvl 15 or lower mobs.
Plays: Durvayas(deleted), Marco(deleted), Hounynrae(NPC), Sinithra Auvry'ndal(rolled), Rauvlin Barrith(Active), Madeline Clavelle(Shelved)

I disagree. Using poisons has been incredibly effective, and the new poisons are awesome. Just need to be a little creative in the way you use them and when/where or against what.
