Great Strength vs Epic Prowess

Post by Cybernet21 » Sun Aug 06, 2017 2:29 am

Isn't Great Strength the same as Epic prowess if it's used to make a 23 STR go to 24?

And a bit off the previous topic but still concerning the same build,(STR paladin) what is better Epic Skilll Focus Taunt or Heal (mostly on PvE side of things)?
My family were all knights, but none protected those who cannot fight for themselves. They all cared about their noble status more than anything else.I would be a true knight,i would train on the ways of the paladin -Arcavius Ryde

Not the same. Epic progress gives +1 AB. Great str gives you +1 ab/damage and a boost to you inventory weight. If your trying to choose between the two with just one feat, go with str.

As for taunt or heal for pve...maybe taunt? Either works, thought taunt will let you cripple spellswords or mages

Sounds like Great Strength and Epic Prowess (instead of an Epic Skill Focus) would be your best bet.

Generally speaking, if you're in a position where you need to take Great Strength instead of Epic Prowess, you've done goofed, though. Taking both on the same build can be beneficial, but if you've been forced to choose, your starting stats are probably suboptimal.

Provided you've not yet made the character, and for some reason you want to keep the Epic Skill Focus as well, you could consider doing one of two things here:

1. Look for another stat to dock from to boost STR by one point. This nets you the AB bonus and lets you take Epic Prowess on top of that. This is generally the best option, provided there's a stat you can afford to lose out on (e.g. superfluous DEX), because this nets you the most possible AB.
2. Alternatively, drop STR by one point and allocate the points gained into another stat (e.g. additional CON). Then you take Epic Prowess, netting the same AB you would've had previously, and trading 1 damage for a bonus in another stat (e.g. two more CON would net you 30 more hit points, which is generally more valuable than +1 damage). Only do option #2 if you can bump a stat to a greater even value, though.
