Worst class in NWN/Arelith?
What is the absolute worst class in your opinion and why? Just curious!
Re: Worst class in NWN/Arelith?
Shifter. It has nothing worthwhile other than gimmicks, it's meant to be some sort of jack of trades but instead it kind of sucks all around.
Re: Worst class in NWN/Arelith?
Assassin.
It's like a bad rogue.

Druid is pretty bad.
Re: Worst class in NWN/Arelith?
I can't decide between these two.
Shifter; In general, most forms are terrible. If you want to play a shape-shifting character, Totem Druid is much stronger, despite it being more of a snore.
Druid; In terms of its ability to perform as a caster, it will likely get smashed by any other caster class; Wizard, Warlock, Cleric, etc. It's only useful for Dragon Shape, and your Totem Druid form.

Worst class is Math, I just hate math! Not that I can't do math, but ... just hate it, that, and Cardinal Biggles.

Re: Worst class in NWN/Arelith?
Are we talking about pure classes?
Ranger has it bad as a base class as far as standard nwn goes; only one strong saving throw, finicky feats (dual wield, fav. enemies), difficult stat spread requirements (STR or DEX+wis+con) and a requirement of 21 ranger levels to get the most of the favorite enemy bonuses. 2d6 damage is nice, but 21 ranger levels is a harsh requirement for a damage die rogues get against everyone (they can sneak) at level 3.
Overall? Probably shifter. Some of the forms have neat tricks that, unfortunatly, do not synergize well with druid unless you explicitly build for them (kobold HIPS, for example. Druids don't have hide/ms access, and shifters only get hide). I can only think of a handful of forms that would be considered "good". Gargoyle shines on Arelith thanks to its DR (25/+7 stacked with 25/- piercing DR with 11 shifter levels), but I'm having trouble think of any other form that would be "useful". The epic form-feats can be powerful, but it requires a lot of shifter levels and burning epic feats. On top of that, you need something like 17 shifter levels to get all the epic forms of the basic shifter abilities.
To top it all off, most of the forms are either melee based (which sucks, as you're tied to at least 2 3/4 BAB classes) or have gimmicky special abilities that have low DC's that can't really be raised (basilisk, medusa, etc)

Re: Worst class in NWN/Arelith?
Druid is good if you dip into a few other classes and take Dragonshape.
Re: Worst class in NWN/Arelith?
Shifter, Assassin, Rogue. Ranger's real bad if you don't multiclass, but can be really solid if you do. The first three are bad no matter how you slice them (And not because people dip them to get skills).

Dragonshape requires a druid to invest nearly all of her epic feats into Great Wisdom, limiting the role she plays to Big Tanky Thing whose Bane Is Doors or buffbot. A druid should not have to build towards dragonshape to be competitive, let alone effective, in late epics. ^^High Primate wrote:Druid is good if you dip into a few other classes and take Dragonshape.
While druids are bad, I would have to cast my lot for pure ranger or pure fighter. It's upsetting how necessary UMD is here, but them's the breaks! ^^

Re: Worst class in NWN/Arelith?
You're absolutely right, Tetra. Druids are afforded a myriad tools that make leveling a breeze, especially in regards to their animal companion. These sort of fall by the wayside once epics are reached (so I am told, I haven't gotten there yet), and considering the resistances many high-level mobs have, druid spells can largely be ineffectual in many epic dungeons. This is not a problem exclusive to druids, however; every DC-based caster understands this pain.

Pure ranger and pure fighter are both better off than pure rogue IMO. Ranger has some nice things and nearly as many skill points as rogue, and can use divine wands without any UMD points anyway.
I played a pure fighter to 30 and another pure kensai fighter to 28. They are more than capable with Arelith's changes.

Assassin. Shifter has rakshasa shape, which is basically a worse warlock but isn't totally useless. Assassin is a direct downgrade to rogue in every possible way, and rogues are already less than great.

There's a reason assassin has @$$ in the name.

Probably shifter!
Druids, rangers, and assassins all have their struggles too. Druids are great with dragon shape, but otherwise not too impressive. Rangers and assassins are both just missing something. Especially assassins.
Honorable mentions to rogues and dedicated paladins, both of which are playable, but could probably use a bit of love.

Dwarven defender.
Re: Worst class in NWN/Arelith?
Fighter8/DwD15/WM7 is a fun build. The strategy is to get EDRIII, chug down a potion of Whispering Wounds/Elly Shield/Death Armor, and kill lest ye be killed. I don't think it wins the cookie-cutter Fighter/WM/Rogue build in toe-to-toe combat, but might be fun in PvM and against sneakies with DwD sneak immunity and handsome DR. The percentage damage immunity works wonders with it!

Re: Worst class in NWN/Arelith?
Ranger at least works as a dip on a sorcerer to get an epic spell focus. Assassin is pretty much just rogue light with a gimmick.
Re: Worst class in NWN/Arelith?
A crappier rogue with gimped skillpoints, no bonus feats and no evasion. So gooooooood.Tiefling Tea Party wrote:Ranger at least works as a dip on a sorcerer to get an epic spell focus. Assassin is pretty much just rogue light with a gimmick.
Re: Worst class in NWN/Arelith?
The reason you take the class as a Wizard/Sorcerer is for the bonus feat. An extra Epic Spell Focus is definitely useful, and it has a discipline dump. Rogue is undoubtedly worse, in most mechanical senses, as a dump for mages.Dorkas wrote:A crappier rogue with gimped skillpoints, no bonus feats and no evasion. Since this thread is about classes being weaker, though.. Ranger, on itself, could use some love.
EDIT: Reading comprehension non-existent. Sorry Dorkas!
