Scry

We will file suggestions here that did not make the cut. Don't expect detailed responses, but the most common reasons are:
- implementing the suggestion is impractical, or too much work for the gain
- the suggestion is thematically against our design philosophy
- the suggestion is too detailed/low-level
Keep your suggestions broad and focused on RP benefits, please, not detailed suggestions of how to tweak X class.

Scry

Post by CosmicOrderV » Tue Nov 20, 2018 10:48 pm

In ye old D&D across its many versions, the ability to use a divination spell to track a creature or scry upon them, ranges from 4th to 5th circle, and are available to most (if not every) spell casting class. On NWN, that would look like a 9th level character having the ability to scry.

Obviously that's not quite the way it works, but. Especially with Divination foci not being super useful for pretty much everyone short of Wizards here on NWN, why not make the scrying function a simpler to achieve for the less dedicated casters?

Much like how Greater Transmutation offers -Teleport at level 21, then Epic Transmutation grants a wider use to the function...

Why not give anyone with Greater Divination the ability to scry locations, at level 21. Something like, a special command that replies with that yellow server text, informing you of the Module Name your target is currently loaded into. I feel like this would open it up more to the likes of bards and rangers, and actually reward them for getting these spell foci feats. Trackers, spies, inquisitors, and bounty hunters alike would all benefit pretty nicely, while still leaving Epic Divination as the superior means of information gathering, comparatively.

I, too, struggle to know what is written in books without first reading them.

We've been considering something like this as a feature of a specific location, so will reject this is in the suggested form. I also wouldn't want scry to become too commonplace, and thus become the primary means of intelligence gathering on PC locations. Rejected.
