I am uncertain whether or not Merdock Took was the Captain before Aris, or a successor, or a contemporary. He is old enough to have been around when Aris and Rune rose to prominence in Wharftown.

I am certain that it's Merdock Took and not Tock. You can see his name in this old screenshot. (He's between Jerome Addams, Rask Under-river and Urebril Amolyn).

If we could track who was first... I will post the question on Questions Forum, in case someone could recall it.

I'd check the Arelithian Encylepedia as there's crap loads that wen down there that I noticed is to on this calendar.

Now what I do have that isn't in the encyclopaedia or the calendar is this, sometime between 36 AR- 43 AR TIzla became Dreadmaster or Dreadmistress rather. It was because of her Talassians were abel to take over stone-hold, then temple was moved to Minmir under her rule. The church of Bane then became illegal in every city and the faction dispersed. Grendal and Vistigor Torkill then collaborated and reunified the church, Torkill became the new Dreadmaster and Sanctra became Imperceptor.

Sanctra then incited a coupe, and became new Dreadmistress, which lasted of all one day then Kastion took over with a new coupe, with Kastion as new Dreadmaster. Then I saw that in the encyclepedia Gorgath Deathcrush took over bonitos in 43 AR, how accurate that part is am unsure as I took a break from the server.

Well, the faction was dead, which is why the clubhouse got downgraded to a simple temple.

Lexi actually joined Light Keep through the Order of Purity as a Student of Berichance. The Order was founded not long before that too. I could probably write a more detailed story on the creation of Light Keep, if needed!

This attack on Stonehold was actually lead by Severian, Weapon Master, Lord of the Praetorian Guard and husband of Xyndral, as far as I recall. He was not actually a member of Light Keep but very Close affiliated. The execution of the halflings came a while after that and they were forced to build Stonehold II beforehand, if I recall right.

Not wishing to pick holes, but as someone who was heavily involved in Benwick at this time, I can say that the events around Galahad, Darius, Xyndral, Lexi etc went roughly as follows:

Galahad founded Benwick (called Benwick) sometime around 2003 real time. He married Lady Anna.

That relationship ended and he married Xyndral, who became his Queen.

Galahad left the server, and Tristram & Xyndral ruled. When Tristram left, Xyndral ruled absolute and it was at this time she renamed Benwick as Light Keep.

Meegat was her right hand woman, the first Lady Protector of Light Keep. Duty Bond (Meegat's husband) was the Queen's Champion and Commander of the army.

Severian was the head of the Praetorian Order, allies of Light Keep, and he became Xyndral's consort.

When Lexius joined Light Keep, she and Duty clashed over how to do things. Xyndral was more of a figurehead and left the running of the Keep to a council consisting of Meegat, Duty and Lexius. Duty upped and left, after a fiery clash with Lexius.

Baltak Brinson showed up at this point and he and his followers merged with Light Keep. However cracks soon showed when it emerged he wanted to become King and rule, with Xyndral as his subordinate. This lead to a feud (IG and OOC as well!) and Baltak and his people eventually left.

Xyndral was killed during the Shadow Throne saga and the council formally took over (Meegat, Lexius and Archmage Sway Sand (Lexius' husband)

Severian had by now died, defeating Stonehold.

Berichance Arnesen now came on the scene and began to gain influence, his rise finally occurring when Meegat was stripped of her position and put on trial for hiring the assassin, Cancer, to kill the frowning Knight, Frand. She was sentenced to death and later commuted to life imprisonment in her quarters.

Lexius now became the absolute ruler of Light Keep, though in practice it was still a council of three.

I thoroughly appreciate this, but I have to ask: is there any means of discovering this information in-character?

My character is attempting to compose something of a history on Benwick, but there is a shadow over the earlier and incredibly important details of Benwick's formation that not even the ancient epics that log in once in a blue moon have recollection of.

There are at least two characters, that I know of around, that know of this period and one of them lived through the part of Xyndral's rule onwards. Of course IC memories may be a little hazy, but the knowledge exists if you can find the person.

Thanks WT. They were good times to play through with some darn good players who I still miss. All good things. ..

Vistigor Torkill has been around that time and I still play him, but as he's always been Lightkeep's enemy, he would be fuzzy on the details at best.

Trying to rebuild with dates the sequence of the events...

In bold the maelstrom chronicle

15 BR [POL] Benwick Realm foundation. Galahad built Castle Benwick, founded to guard something what was buried underneath. Not later will found a realm and reigns by as the King Galahad the Builder. Around this time, the King Galahad married Lady Anna.

(Note that 15 BR was the month of January, 2004...)
 That relationship ended and he married Xyndral, who became his Queen.
Date?
 Galahad left the server, and Tristram & Xyndral ruled. When Tristram left, Xyndral ruled absolute and it was at this time she renamed Benwick as Light Keep.
11-12? AR [POL] King Galahad of Benwick passes away, leaving the citadel to be governed by his Queen Xyndral

Bendir was only aided by a darven army led by the Thane Belrun, not enough for the massive threat. Bendir decisively lost and the Banites took scores of hin slaves. After this first battle, Benwick, who stayed neutral during the first Banite attack, decided to intervenite and with the survivor hin led Severian, Weapon Master, Lord of the Praetorian Guard and husband of Xyndral, they came with an army of celestials, paladins and clergy, imposing a hard defeat to Stonehold, detroying their fortress and disbanding the Banite army.

Man of the Moon,

Nice timeline, sorry I can't add to dates though.

Just a point on the Brinsons, if I may.

"The Brinson Family camped at the outdoors of Cordor with their followers found the Rosewind Campment. Formerly, they played an important part in the formation of Benwick."

The Brinsons (Baltak and Delilah) did not play an important part in the formation of Benwick. Benwick was already well established by the time of their arrival. They were granted permission to join Light Keep (as it was known throughout Xyndral's reign), as refugees, but when they began to try and take control of the throne they were forcibly ejected.

Their contribution to Light Keep was negligible at best. In essence they were a threat to the established order that was already present.

From your other thread.
The Man of the Moon wrote:89AR [POL] The Last Battle of the Rifts suceed with the creation of the Astrolabe by a council of mages and sages led by the Archimage Kouto, as a solution to fix the planar breach.
The Astrolabe was created during that last battle predominantly due to Amelia Selana, Jel, and Vippin's actual magical investments. Damask was the one who had the schematics for the Rift Stabilization Device (RSD) given to him by the Planeswalker that became the foundations of the Astrolabe. Kouto was not involved at this level to my recollection.

It should also be emphasized that the Rift Crisis was less a 'planar breach' and more 'reality breaking down' according to the Planeswalker's exposition.

See the in-game books, "Rifts: Interview with Amadeo Pneuma" and "The Last Battle of the Rifts" for any additional detail, they're as true to the events as can be hoped for.

In addition to the books available in game, there's an NPC who gives a list of names of people who contributed to the creation of Astrolabe.

If anyone ever wants to chat with this NPC and get a history lesson, try and catch me in game and i can use him to answer questions. Though I can't promise he'll be a reliable narrator.

Mael, when you said "Tristram left" (I'm sure you're referring to Darius Tristram) is this him leaving for... Kohlingen?

The story goes Kohlingen fell into the sea when Galahad was still in power. Do you know where it fits in that sequence of events?

Kohlingen existed quite some time after Galahad's vanishing from the server. Tristram (Darius) did go to Kohlingen, but I don't think he lasted there for long.

I joined Benwick in 2005, after Galahad had departed, and Kohlingen was still around then, probably into 2006, but I'm sure Artos or Jj would be able to give a more accurate time for its vanishing.

Also - I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure this occured a little while after Valden Stormbright stopped playing. I don't remember many infernalists having that much of a hand in that event.
Wharftown Clash event, I remember this one. Valden started the fight before most Infernalists had buffed up. I was keeping Samir alive behind a bank when he dropped by being ''wtf is going on here''. Most of our faction fell.
6? AR [GEO] Discovered a way to enter in the Shadow Plane and the Shadovar Trading Post.
Shadovar trade post must have been around decades before. I played my drow actively before Baator was re-introduced. I'm quite certain, as I got a glorious one weekend ban after slaying shadovar NPCs with Oblodra and Belduil(?). Shadow Plane and Shadow doors were introduced around 35AR? We did some shadow plane jump experiments with Bel'qualyn. Mithreas might recall exact time.
86 AR [POL] Foundation of Andunor.
This is only a some IG years old event. I can't put a direct date but around 95 AR?
100 AR [POL] Arrival of the Army of Light
Before Army of Light, Kal'axis the dracolich made its first appearance through minions at 99 AR. Events overlapping.

Andunor was introduced in May 2014. I don't recall what IG year that was. But definetely much later than 86. 95 might be a good guess, but not 100% sure.

I see some of the first notes on the board in Blingstonhold, speaking of Andunor is 96.

Nah, this was The Kradbunch Tolls, not the Cradfoot Trolls - I know, it's way too similar. Krad refers to Krad Saikoro, someone that doxxed me on the forums and was a massive prick of the highest order. Got banned eventually. I don't really want either Krad OR the Cradfoots in the history, considering both were kind of assholes from what I hear of the latter. Ruined svirfs for a long time, 'til Cuchi came in.
Somewhere in 2010 (June?)- Nives killed Oblodra and made herself First Matron. You can look for that yourself, I'm going to adopt a similar policy to Kuma and not glorify people who repeatedly PvP'd and hassled the Proverbial out of anyone they didn't like.
Eh, Nives never got banned though did make some Interesting Statuary one time. I mean we glorify Valtheran and he got banned though for some pretty specious reasons, and his thing was "bloodthirsty, just suave as hell while doing it". I think we can keep Nives in.
Some background info here. From the few things I gathered about drow politics back in the 'good old days'; being a PvP-powerbuild was a must for the first matron. IMO, Nives was doing okay. For a really long time as High Priestress and then as first matron. To leave her out would leave a gap of RL years there.
The cradfoots were some evil-leaning svirfs. By far not the only ones, svirfs were leaning evil then, cause everyone else was evil too (and svirfs are a powerbuild race). One or two of them were infamous for using assassinations as a standard method to deal with problems.

Man, I just read the entire topic and all of it made me feel nostalgic as hell. Even stuff I only heard about when I first joined.

Also, makes me feel bad because I am fairly certain I have little to contribute with, because not only is my memory very foggy on a lot of the old stuff, but the quality of the input I might have to add is questionable.

Despite that, and the best way I can think of for me to give some assistance, is to point out a few areas where I might be of help, in case anyone has related questions:

-Myon: I was there from the start to about half of Trintirel and Wren's rulership, I think. A year and half or so.

-Heartwood Grove: My Myon elf (Daedin)was always aware of what was happening there, and later my wild elf was around it a lot too, and into anything forest-related, really.

-Underdark: Here I might be able to help, as I started playing in the UD way, waay before the Cataclysm. When Jhared's was a tiny fraction of its current size, and before the Grondhouse existed (grond was a lot different as a whole). However, most of my time in the UD was spent in weak and mostly unsucessufl attempts at creating something fun out of the Orog race, as a general concept.

I started playing one very shortly after the race was introduced, and Lurg might've been one of the first to show up, or at the very least, one of the first to stick around for a long time.

I remember there being one orc character that lived in the UD, and later asked to have his sub-race changed to orog, as that's what we had been playing as all along. He was awesome..but I can't remember the name.

In any case...yes, those might be the areas where I can be the most helpeful, if questions arise.

I really like all the work you've been putting into all of this, Man of the Moon, but I wonder if it might be wiser to avoid chronicling 'recent' events here. Not only because some of it is fairly FOIG, but also because it detracts from any IG historical efforts that might like to take place.

Having played a historically-inclined character, going through the process of gathering information in-game (all the interviews, discussions, madly rushed logins in when you see a 5+ year old character who holds the final piece of the puzzle on the playerlist) is very satisfying, but it's also fairly difficult and, I'd imagine, very easy to get discouraged from when you are competing with a collaborated forum of instantaneous and 24/7 communication.

It's probably better that we decide on an 'end-date', after which we only jot down the very basics of major DM events or server changes. Eg. "Andunor's coliseum is finished" is great, as is the founding of Greyhammer, but the (incredibly) intimate details of particular characters of Wharftown aren't so great. Perhaps leave certain DM events such as the Zhentarim and the Army of Light in name and date only, so historically-inclined characters can fill in the blanks IG.

Just my opinion. Otherwise, I really like the work that has been going on here.
