Cordor I Love You, But You’re Breaking My Heart.
Somber, performed with lute, slight increase in tempo throughout
Cordor I love you, but you’re breaking my heart.
Cordor, I love you, but you’re breaking my heart.
Like a shop in the Squares.
Selling low-quality wares.
Cordor I love you, but you’re breaking my heart.
Cordor, you're perfect and I love to pass through,
But I can’t help and wonder when’s the next coup.
Laws are never the same,
They change through the flame.
To the Guards who once thought they knew what to do.
Cordor, you're chaos, oh, please don’t change a thing.
A man sits on the throne convinced he’s a king.
So Amn can collect.
I mean all disrespect.
Oh, I wonder when we’re told we can’t sing.
Cordor, I love you, but you're wearing me down.
Even those of good intent are run of town.
A prayer on the street,
As means for deceit.
But you're still the one place I'd happily drown.
Maybe I'm wrong and maybe you're right,
Maybe I'm wrong and maybe you're right.
Cordor I love you, but you’re breaking my heart.
Oh, how I hope that I’m wrong...
But, maybe. Maybe, I’m right…
Singer’s notes:
This song is long overdue, it's been weighing on me, but I couldn't put the words down.
I love the city. Walking into Cordor from Waterdeep, it just felt like home. But, it's that dark side that feels like a dagger to the heart. Azaria, with blood that runs purely with good intent, gets run out of the town. Gus, the one constant in the Guard, is relieved of command. Using the arts as means of expression gets banned. And even the King, who, no one knows what he does in his castle all day long.
That's just the surface. Love and hate.
It's saddening and to you, dear reader, I leave this ballad.
(An obvious tribute to New York, I Love You, but You're Bringing Me Down)
