Dire Displacement

Post by Diilicious » Tue Jun 27, 2017 12:45 am

On the east fringes of Cordor a blizzard was blowing. A forest of tents had been erected. This was Haven refugee camp. There were many men, women and children living amongst the dense clutter of canvas that had been crammed into just about wherever they could fit. The crops growing in the small patch of arable land at the Cavalry headquarters had been picked completely clean to within an inch of their lives as people desperately shook and picked at the plants for fruits nuts and berries.

Omni, shanna's faithful seeing eye wolf panted loudly in the snow, her breath clouding the air, the armour plates on her back shifting as she moved forwards against the wind. Shanna held onto the strap of her rucksack with one hand and the long leather leash around her companion with the other, her aid Shaolan close behind with tightly strapped and covered wheelbarrow.

The wind whistled and raced around the trio as they walked slowly towards Haven, through the short forested canopy and along the long roads. Shanna having to make a conscious effort to close her eyes lest they froze in her skull, having long since been blind and in darkness whether her eyes were open or not.

She trusted that Omni would be leading them the right way, and judging that Shaolan had yet to correct them that they must have been going in the right direction. The trio bringing with them more desperately needed supplies of food, water and medical equipment to the camp.

Soon there was no doubt in shanna's mind that they were nearing the camp, even in the fridged cold of the East shoreline the smell was unmistakable. The smell of human waste was faint on the air and as time drew on the conditions would only get worse, steadily growing more and more unsanitary by the passing day. The fifty to sixty strong camp were living at the moment in relatively good conditions all things considered but the camp was not a solution it was a stop gap measure, the people needed to be housed properly, either in a board or their own dwelling.

The Cordorian Guards looked nervously at Omni as the giant wolf would pass them with Shanna in tow, bringing her master to the main building. The camp was silent and the deafening sound of blizzards gale was not helping matters.
"Just bring the cart up here Shaolan dear please" Shanna asked with her hand against the wall, silently praising Zachards help for aiding her in making so many thick blankets two weeks prior while the weather was good, had they not delivered such necessities before the weather had turned she could only imagine the conditions here now.

Shaolan wheeled the small cart to one side and helped Shanna stand out of the way, "thank you dear" she would say to her aid as Shaolan would start to load the donation barrells with things from the cart, keeping a hand on her sash and a careful watch on the surroundings just incase it kicked off again like last time.

Shanna's face was so cold she could hardly feel it, but opted not to use her magic spells as the people around also didnt have such luxuries and didnt want to appear superior to them, understanding that feelings were at an all time low in the camp after hearing of the total destruction of Wharftown.

Canvas tents were closed up tightly to keep the wicked cold wind out in a desperate bid to stay warm in the harsh eastern fringes. The cart sparkled with magic blessings to help keep the food at the same temperature it was cooked at, and also to ward off sickness in those who would eat it.

"Hot food! water and cleaning items! come and get it!" Shanna would shout perhaps a little premature as Shaolan had not yet finished unloading the cart. Omni sat down to Shanna's side, and although sitting was taller than her blind master. There was neary a sound or rustle from the surrounding tents for what felt like an eternity. "Death to cordor death to cordor! death to the Eagles!" a young boy would yell from one of the tents.

Shanna felt a little defeated, thanking Chauntea that her children had a more secure upbringing, "come on, Travis that doesnt help, we talked about this.. right?" A woman would follow up with softly a moment later. "We cant do it alone, we need their he-" she tried to explain, attempting to reason with the small boy she had essentially taken under her wing. "we could if they didnt blow everything up! its their fault! i hate them! death to co-mfh" the boys squeeking tones would yell before being cuddled by the woman "shhh.. stop that now, you'll get yourself into a state again..." she soothed.

Shaolan would note the nearby guards fingers affirming and re-affirming their grips on their longswords in annoyance...
