The story of a princess

Post by Edoras » Sun Mar 05, 2017 9:15 pm

The kingdom of Copperplate Reef is one Island within the surrounding waters of the Green Copper sea. The mountains of the island are famous of their copper. Merchants from all around come to trade. The island has several places of a respectable size, Copper Wire, Copper Mountain and Copper Plate with the Copper Castle. Every city has its own function, Copper Mountain is a mining town, their product is then shipped to Copper Wire, where they forge the rock chunks into ingots and Copper Plate is the main port and the centre of merchandising. The kingdom of Copperplate Reef has been ruled by the same family for generations. The current king is king Nalor the fifth. Next in line was his son Orag, who recently passed away. Leaving the princess the only heir.

The princess sat down on her bed and started crying in her hands. The banquet turned into a disaster. She wasn’t polite enough “again”, her table manner were “horrible”, and worst of all she spoke about politics without the permission of Grubal, her advisor and tutor. After the guests returned to their chambers, the admonition started. “Why wasn’t she more like her father… Have you ever listened to your mother… Your brother would never have done anything like that…” And the worst of all: “we will tell this to your grandfather after his return”. Live wasn’t fair, why wasn’t she just a normal girl, with a happy family and a normal job. Of course every family struggled after the devastating disease, but it felt like her family was hit with double strength.

She looked out the window of her bedroom, to what was going to become her kingdom when she was of age. It was her entire future. A deep sigh escaped from her and a stout plan was forming inside her head. What if she left Copperplate Reef and face the world outside the walls? She shook the idea out of her head. ‘They will never let me go, especially not Grubal’.
With her cheeks still wet from the tears she fell asleep. Her normal dreams were replaced by wild new dreams about the world outside. About green forests she had never seen before and big cities with a unfamiliar elegance. The world was bright, with intense colours. She looked around with a bright smile on her face, a smile she haven’t had in a long time. The place felt friendly, almost like home. She wandered around in the fields and forests for a while and found a door. When she opened the door her dream changed, the world became grim and dark. It looked like her world when she was awake.

Her heart missed a beat after a quick look around. She has seen this before, when the disease was on its full. She took a deep breath and moved on. Everywhere were grieving people, but she never saw a face. In an impulse she headed out towards her home, the Copper Castle. When she got close she noticed a procession. A closer look learnt her that it was a funeral procession. Slightly curious she went closer, who would have such a big funeral procession? With a shock she realized that it was her father’s coffin. She fell on her knees with tears rolling down her cheek. As soon as her knees hit the floor she opened up her eyes and woke up. She had made her decision, she would leave Copperplate Reef.
