Devon Blake a diary of sorts

Post by Airhog91 » Wed Jul 18, 2018 3:55 pm

I am not sure where to begin. I have found Zara's book and thought this is something to do as a reminder of what has passed.

I can't recall much of what happened back when I first arrived in Cordor. The City was different then. Simpler. The Council was for the people. No one was forced out of homes or businesses.

My travelling companions back then ... Druid Elf called Zak. Planky and fellow mage whose name escapes me. Why can't I recall his name? Doreen we called him in jest. Ah yes Dorian i remember now. He taught me much about my nature and how to focus the weave. Where are they now I wonder?

I decided to use my skills to aid new arrivals to the land wards to aid their journey and guide them to the portals dotted about the place.

Enchantments when asked. Essences made if materials were available. A simple existence for me to live my days. That was soon to change.

Whilst sitting outside the Nomad was an ideal location to ward passing adventurers and to practice my knowledge of Elven. Prehaps Zak may return and I can impress her. She disliked the city and preferred to live as a bear. I fear she may have become feral of too long in bear form.

A young lady asked for a guide about the place. I escorted her to the portals from Cordor to Gulderland with the odd diversion to pick up as many as we could before returning to Cordor. I was probably just some kindly mage to her but there was something about her harshness that made me think this one may end up at the wall if she isn't careful.

She was riding a fine mare near the gates of the city when a halfblood orc was trying to get the horse to eat it. She was standing her ground like a ship rat in front of a tiger. Amazingly no one seemed to care to help her. I remember a him egging the orcblood to eat the horse.

I wished her no harm so I cast invisibility on her so she could escape. The him thought it fun to cast see invisibility on the orcblood. Luckily she managed to escape. I am not certain whether her horse did.

I thought no more of the lady until our paths crossed once more. She seemed upset and was in Cordor to get away from someone who was engaged to someone else. He followed her to Cordor with promises of love or some such. To be truthful I tried not to hear their talking. He did not seem to convince her his intentions were true and sent him off back to his fiancee.

She needed a distraction so I suggested a trip to focus her anger. We became friends and would often travel together.

The days passed as they do and each day we became closer. Zara decided she needed to leave Guld for peace of mind as friction among the former lovers threatened her sanity.

I wandered the whole isle in search of a home where she could relax without the stress of life in Guld.
I found a cave within a secluded area near the Grove. It was damp and we had little in the way of luxuries. We slept on bearskin rugs sharing body heat to keep warm against the chill of the cave. We were happy as we were together. We joked that it's better than a tent. We will find somewhere better I promised.
Happy together nothing could go wrong. How wrong we were.

Zara loves the sea. The Freeship Alara was in Drydock so I bought the deeds to her. The plan to get her back in the water to patrol as necessary. To transport passengers to adventurers or prehaps a new life.

Then the accusations started. I was called a thief and a pirate having stolen the ship. Mainly by shrill shrew of a woman who was the Second axe of Guld. I tried to show her the sale papers to no avail. Even after the Mayor deemed it a legal purchase she would snipe.

She ordered an elf to shoot me dead within the town. Luckily the elf had sense enough to refuse as no crime was committed and as a citizen had every right to be there.
This insenced her so she somehow got word to her fiancee to come and escort us illegally out of the town by exile. Not batting an eyelid when informed we were waiting to meet the Mayor who was her superior.
This banshee was fined and stripped of rank and suspended from the shield. This should been the end of the saga but she ran to the Thane with wild tales and wanted him to order Alice to exile us.

I am not sure how we stand there as we are innocent and at best this is an internal town matter.

Wow this writing stuff down is calming.

Anyway if that isn't bad enough now some tyrant has taken over Cordor and turning it into some kind of dictator state.

I am trying to rally the people to rise up peacefully. Planting sedition where I can. Some have also added their voice but I am being blamed for it all.
They will see it isn't. Someone hired an assassin which did not go well. This is not the depths to stoop. We are no better than the tyrant if we do. Passive resistance the combined might of the people will oust the tyrant and his trained murderers.

We have moved back to Guld for the time being. I miss the sun and the sand. We will be back one day.

Watching Zara placing things about our new home brings a smile to my face. She is so focused on getting things just so that she is able to replace a little and not mull over her dark thoughts of the murderers in charge of Cordor. So far confined to sedition and having somewhere safe for the citizens to meet and plan an overthrow. I am supporting her but has to be a line. We do not wish to become tyrants ourselves.

We need to sail to Raines Landing again we had such fun there. Although events may have made Zara weary. Maybe take a few for a Barbeque and camp.

Zara seems distant. Not distant as not wanting me around but more like she has something on her mind.

She mentioned her sisters again. I thought they died along with her parents. When we have time we can use the ship to travel the various Isles in search. I wish to make her happy and finding her family will do just that.

Managed to get the crew to drop me off at Luskan. I sought out the Mages enclave and asked about any mages named Fynn. Seems there was a mage there once who reached Archmagus. Sounds like Zara's sister. The trail has gone cold for now as she has not been seen for a few years now.

I must get back to my beloved wife and continue her training. Zara has been cooking too many pies of late. She has started to bulk out a little. No fat but a little chunky. She is still my beautiful wife and the extra weight will soon be shed. She sleeps longer than usual. Have I upset her somehow? A few days to go we shall be back in each others arms. I can't wait to feel her warmth again.

The return to the Isle was met with joy. Zara is carrying our child. I know she is able to look after herself, however, I am still worried about her and now our unborn.

I know its early days and her bump isn't too large at the moment. My heart is fit to burst. I am the luckiest man in all faerun indeed.

Vance was seen amassing near Sibayad. Zara and I barely escaped by jumping into the portal.

We spent the night at the tower safe.

Business seems to be booming. Zara is gathering resources and I have made a few book bags.

Life is good. I feel complete we have a wonderful home and a family on the way. A pet to complete the picture? Prehaps entice one of the cheetahs in. Zara would like that I'm sure.

We found out that Vance has a phylactry. This apparently explains why he is hard to kill. This news was brought to the Thane. Why does someone so wise like that First Arse of Darrowdeep? After all the lies he and his trollop spread about us. This news given to the Thane shows we are not the people they made us out to be.
Prehaps it's just sour grapes that he had his chance with Zara. No he tries to dig whenever he can. He can try! Ally or not if he tries to harm her in word or deed. He will pay regardless. Zara has been banned from Darrowdeep. Not that anyone with any brains would want to. But to ban someone for no reason is absurd.

Gulderland our second home. The place is nice albeit cold. Zara has more history there than I. She was the best guard there and in my opinion should be their leader.
Even though we do not live there we are citizens. Zara still thinks that she is one of Derristan's militia. One of the shields was being insubordinate to both his superior and deputy mayor over a draconian in the town.
Zara steps into the argument making the situation worse. Her heart is in the right place standing up for Derristan.
Things got heated and names were thrown followed by drawing of swords.
I readied a spell or two just in case. Zara may have been able to cut him in half but there was a chance she could have been injured. Or worse.
Sense prevailed as she walked away. Although I feel she won't be able to let it go. The town must be desperate to hire such rude individuals.
I wonder if their paths crossed before!

My heart aches whenever I see Zara upset.
A pirate tried to plunder the Alara. So Zara let her rage do what it will. Now one less pirate.

Zara wanted to go somewhere new. So we portalled to the trade hub at the Underdark. We wandered about for a while having the odd encounter here and there.
When we decided to return home we were prevented from using the portal by an Orc who was talking underdark. It all seemed quite calm until his companion said 'sounds like a good idea'. Then without warning or any indication of hostility we were both attacked. I had no time to prepare for the enslaught.

We both came too outside Cordor. Both feeling weak as kittens. Some say this is a sickness caused by a death. We will need to speak with Mud the Orc elder to see if these were of the hoard. Why attack at a known neutral area?

Mystra be praised she must have saved us both and that of our unborn child.

Life has slowed down whilst our tingling prepares to meet the world.
Crafting has been the mainstay of our existence and although I feel Zara would rather be out slaying the biggest beast she can find.

Gulderland has been given autonomy back from the dwarves. Now we shall begin to grow as a town.

As long as we have the Alara we will be able to trade our wares. One day we may be rich enough to buy our own island or prehaps a castle.

Back to crafting...

Our son arrived. He has no name yet as we both forgot to look at names for either boy or girl. So for now it's baby, boy or child. Until we find a name befitting the the angelic bundle we made together.
We will need to keep an eye on him should he start to show he has the weave in his blood. He may be a fighter or mage. As yet we can't tell.
Zaravella looked tired after giving birth. Something else we had to learn on the spot. No one else to aid or advise. The crew have welcomed him by getting drunk on rum and making him ships mascot.

Soon the ice will thaw and we can sail to Skal. There should be good opportunity for trade, enchanting and passage for those who yearn for warmer lands.

With our new arrival our adventurers will need to be less dangerous. So trade and the odd skirmish now and again seems our heading for now.

I am so proud of Zaravella. She has always made me feel like the luckiest man in all faerun. How can I love her more?
