A Dwarven Saga - Beldin Deldanten's Tale - An StS Enterprises Story by StSBoss

Past the western sea beyond Arelith, across the Tundra of Maldan, and through the Foothills of Karkoss, stand the mighty Winding Crags of Fustil Markin-Din. The glorious crags stand so tall they pierce the clouds, and span a hundred miles. Every twist and turn of the crags has its own unique stone formation, with its own mysterious cave filled with its own mysterious peril. One of those caves hidden amongst the crags is Kibil Dum, the Silver Hall, and one of those peril's is the dwarven clan that lives there. The Silver Hall is the long-time home of the Deldanten Clan. For over a thousand years, the Deldanten's have lived here in the mountains. The fragrant smell of cold granite rock, and ominous cave walls twinkling with silver have a way of making any dwarf who sets foot within feel at home, save Beldin.

Beldin Deldanten is the son of the patriarch of his clan, his father Belbarbrim the Lord of Silver. Beldin's siblings, his sister Ishkeel and his brother Brambino, were iconic dwarven folk. Ishkeel is a proud mother who united the Deldantens with the mighty Ironbore Clan by marrying her husband Dunbar. Brambino continued a long line of Deldanten dwarven paladins who served Clangeddin Silverbeard. Beldin was the so called black sheep of the family and chose to practice the arcane arts. Because of this, Beldin rarely feels at home at Kibil Dum. The road ahead, the path less traveled, and the mysteries beyond the crags called to him. So he instead chose the life of a wanderer, traveling from tavern to tavern and from woman to woman. Through these travels he wound up with a son, a half-dwarf name Daro. Beldin has never told Daro who his mother is, and for Daro to try to guess it would be like choosing a single grain of sand from the Sword Coast. Similar to his father, Daro chose his own path, that of a ranger. It was a path that suited him well since he was always moving from place to place with Beldin.

After over forty years of traveling from place to place with Beldin, Daro still did not know much about his father. But it always seemed like Beldin was looking for something. He would talk to all sorts of strange folk in the taverns they visited. He would read every scroll he found, and would learn all the gossip of each town they passed through. Over two months ago Beldin and Daro were staying in an abandoned keep that stood in the middle of a woodland so thick that light could barely peak through the timbers. Beldin told Daro to stay near the keep and that he had business in these woods. He set out into the dark forest for nearly a week. Daro was intrigued, but he had tried to follow his father before and the last time he wound up turned into a squirrel for half a day. Because of this, Daro let it be. He was used to his father's mysterious nature. Daro spent his time waiting for Beldin by hunting, fishing, and tracking curious forest beings. When Beldin returned, he began acting far different than normal. It seemed as though his 'search' had ended. They stayed at the keep for over a week, stopped traveling from tavern to tavern, and Beldin seemed to be talking to himself late every night. Then one morning Daro woke up with his father looming over him, "get up! There's work to do!"

"What's going on? Goblins?" Daro inquired.

"Nae. But, oi must stay ere in dis forest. As for you, oi have a task for ye." Beldin said as he stared at Daro and through him. His mind seemed totally preoccupied with the grandest of plans.

"What do you need me to do?" Daro rose from bed and stood at his ready. He was invigorated. his father rarely asked much of him before. Of course he would hunt for food, and ransack a few orcish caverns, but never a mysterious task like this. It was a long trek through the forest and towards the coldlands, past the tundra, and foothills to the Winding Crags and Kibil Dom, but Daro was a proud ranger. For him, the journey was the adventure, the rugged road his sanctuary.

Beldin handed Daro a small sack with a small carefully wrapped package inside that looked like a tiny chest. "Deliver this package to your uncle. Don't open it. Don't put it down. Don't tell anyone about it. Don't ask any questions. Just deliver it ta him." Beldin said with a narrowed glare.

Daro left with the package and Beldin stayed at the abandoned keep. Weeks passed by and Beldin knew that something was wrong. Has the package been delivered? Why hasn't Daro returned? With no other option, Beldin was forced to leave the abandoned keep and the answers that he had finally found within this forest. Beldin journeyed all the way home to Kibil Dom. He met with his family and discussed this mysterious package with Brambino. With Daro gone, Beldin could not return to the forest. He had to search for his son. Brambino called upon his son Graim to assist them. And so Beldin, Brambino, and Graim each set out on a different path to search for Daro. Beldin set out to the far east of the coldlands, across the vast and unforgiving sea, and found himself on mysterious isle called Arelith. On Arelith his search continues.
