Benwickan Refugees - DM GrumpyCat
So, making a kudos thread for this little event, because I feel it's necessary. I'd been begging for the opportunity for a while, and y'know what? It turned out even better than I thought it would. What I imagined to be a little event done for its own sake turned out to have a lot of emotional weight. The little interactions between the refugees and the player characters revealed a lot of raw personality. The people that arrived to help, either out of love or loyalty, showed who they really were. And I love events like that.
It was so simple. Nothing epic, barely any combat, just bits of dialogue and a lot of patience from both DM GrumpyCat and the players - and yet it held so much weight. This is what I love about Arelith.
So DM GrumpyCat, thank you for sparing the time on this little happening. Thank you for controlling all those NPCs (I actually loved that there were so many, it was very atmospheric) and thank you for the opportunity. You even added in little details like the bridge creaking, and kept us on our toes about what was around the next corner, without too much actual violence. That is an amazing skill, where we were never sure of what would happen next. You the real MVP.
To the others: The dwarves are stone-cold awesome. Ghestaldt and the Kulds Ordin and Caesar, you guys make one hell of an entrance. Ghestaldt actually feels like a Thane with his escort, and the Kulds do an amazing job of acting as elite guardians. I wish you could see what others see when you guys RP. There's a tremendous atmosphere surrounding you all.
Eldwyn, Alice, Frank, Peter, Thedas: Let's be honest, you guys deserve way more kudos than I could possibly list here. I'll just leave an IOU for a proper kudos thread here, and in the meantime, thank you all for putting up with my half-elf.
Liunia Lillith: Why are you so cool. Teach me.
Obren: Our little Obren is all grown up. And quite a badass. I'm super glad you showed up and lent us your Triadist faith. Obren looked great while protecting the herd.
Lunarya, Iliberos and Kailu: To the elven buddies that joined along the way. Lunarya always seems to be in the right place at the right time, ready to provide backup. Good Guy Lunarya. The Iliberos and Kailu were exactly what I'd expect elven travelers to act like, and I got a very real sense of their elven nature, with Kailu's misunderstandings and Iliberos's quiet nature.
Sidrian: Dude, I felt so bad about our characters being snuggybears to yours. You handled it like a champ. Thank you for joining in.
Last but certainly not least, thank you to the Admins, devs and DMs for crafting such a gorgeous setting, and letting us play around with it.

I too had a lot of fun! Sorry to Grumpycat for adding to your stress levels, I felt really bad about that!
I just sort of stumbled upon it while trying to go elsewhere and pushed my way in.

Oh it's alright we all have expected something to happened
It is hard to control the NPC's while placing Hostile NPC without a Second DM so i really did not mind that there was less Hostile NPC's attacking us.

Echoing the kudos to GrumpyCat! This is the first event where I actually felt like I really did something and contributed to it, even though we didn't even fight anything besides usual encounters (Although I did have my cursor hovering over my healing circle quick slot the entire time just in case) As Rieper said, this event wasn't about fighting, it was about our characters interacting with the world and showing who they are. And any opportunity I have to ham up Alice's "Mama Bear Mode" I will gladly take it. Playing an exceptionally kind Sunite isn't any fun if I don't have people to care for!
Extra kudos to GrumpyCat for taking control of all those NPCs. I'm sure that took a lot of focus and energy to balance your focus between directing NPCs, possessing them to speak, AND keeping up with all the banter going on around.
And of course an event isn't an event without us players! Ghestaldt and the Kulds were just so cool, GoodGuyLuna was GoodGuy, Sidrian was paranoid as usual which actually spooked me a bit oocly, and the two elves encountered along the way were funny to watch as they responded to the massive party that came by. And Team Guldorand you know I <3 you guys.
This whole event was just fun all around and left me feeling downright motivated at the end.

It was definitely an incredible event! Althought mine was at the vanguard doing what a ranger does best, the little interactions when the group was catching up was certainly amazing, and in the end left me a big smile as how the refugees entered the town... Certainly, an amazing job from DM Grumpycat, and the rest of the assistants!

There was something nicely understated about it. It served as an awesome reminder that for things to be cool, it doesn't always need Michael Bay explosions and fiendish ultravillains. It was a nice, chilled out bit of plot advancement.
Big kudos not just for the event itself, but also for Grumpycat's impressive keyboard ballet in correcting the wayward pathfinding of ten NPCs along a narrow road, with plenty of stuff on which they could get stuck.

Thank you for the Kudos. Glad as I am to run the event, getting all the NPCs to go where I wanted them to go was a bloody nightmare!
This too shall pass.
(I now have a DM Discord (I hope) It's DM GrumpyCat#7185 but please keep in mind I'm very busy IRL so I can't promise how quick I'll get back to you.)
