Best places to go.
So, just hit level 7 on a wizard, no conj focus, so the dire spiders as good as it gets and my midnight to 8 am playtime see's me with few people online to group with.
Where is the best place to level on the surface there?

A wizard without conjuration?
I do humbly suggest the rat cellar of the Underdark until level 24.
If you are in surface, alternatively you may use the rat ships of Cordor, at least until 24.

Re: Best places to go.
Soloing without conjuration is a pain, so you either satisfy yourself with bad XP or find a party.

"Best" = Most XP / time?
I'd go to the Orc caves. Even though the xp/kill is shitty, you'll probably end up with more xp as if creeping through the Wharftown Boys hideout. And you can farm potions

Who's on at times like now, for a while, and is low level?

While it's a pain levelling a wizard without conjuration, the spider should be adequate for dealing with the Bloodmoon orcs easily, and the Wharftown boys with a little caution.
Pack barkskin potions if you can, and make sure to buff the spider with Mage armor and the full suite of physical stat buffs.
It's helpful to micro the spider carefully to apply poison to every target in a mob before you focus any single target down, with roughly the follwing target priority in the WT boys:
>swashbucklers (low enough fort that it just about always works, and the poison makes them never hit)
>swordmasters (dangerous to the spider, but STR damage makes them much easier)
>thugs (also dangerous, but highest fort of the bunch)
>archers (base 10 strength, so poison still takes like 1-3 points of damage off every attack)

If you dare travel down to Andunor and have some cash to spare, buy a bunch of the cube tubes, getting a 400HP Gelatinous cube henchman to tank for you for 1300-2000 gold each is a pretty sweet deal for classes that have a hard time soloing.
Re: Best places to go.
This reminds me of a thread someone made a while back that talked about leveling areas. It sure would be nice to have a general idea of where to go at different times during your leveling career. This just gave me the idea to go here on my character...although he's a bit higher than this.

Re: Best places to go.
The spider is actually very good for solo-mages, even without conjuration focuses. Take advantage of the fact the spider is immune to mind affecting spells and web and focus on supporting it while exploiting these immunities. You -shouldn't- need more than one, maybe two spells per mob doing so.
Re: Best places to go.
Also, grab the hellhound familiar when you level up, this will actually grant you the frog familiar which you can use to combat heal your summons over and over with the resummoning.

Don't forget the mercs down there in Andunor.Nitro wrote:If you dare travel down to Andunor and have some cash to spare, buy a bunch of the cube tubes, getting a 400HP Gelatinous cube henchman to tank for you for 1300-2000 gold each is a pretty sweet deal for classes that have a hard time soloing.
That said, if you're on the surface, I've got a level 8 cleric I could do some grinding with - though I'm rarely on at 4:30 am, still ... hit me up on Skype if you see me about online. I'm usually game.
