Couldn't find an "introduce yourself" section :D
Hi guys!
I'm brand spanking new to this server- although it *does* seem like the type of server i've been looking for
I've been playing NWN since about 2006, although it was on more PVP based servers like Heart of Winter, Dungeon Eternal X, Badlands ect. Since the servers are closing down I started looking around for a still decently populated server and found this one- and decided to jump in. I love RP, but never could find a server, so if you meet me in game- excuse the bad RP, I'm learning now . hehe.
Anyways, I am playing a sorcerer that came from a land far across the sea, fleeing from the horrors of his past, and trying to fix the wrong that he has done.
I'm looking forward to growing with this character and making many allies as well as enemies. So for now, cheers and see you guys around (I'm the shivering half-clothed elf that wanders around Cordor and regularly checks the donation boxes for some robes )

Welcome aboard! The first thing you might want to read is the rules section, especially the rule on how pvp is handled on Arelith. There are only four rules, and they are pretty simple to understand *smirks*. Feel fre to ask any of us about well anything. We have lots of opinions that don't mean a thing .
Seriously. Arelith has a great playerbase and the admins and devs are equally great.

I do have to ask though- from what I read here on the forums I get the idea DM's play a rather large-ish role in the Arelith world. So, are they active enough to this effect?
Re: Couldn't find an "introduce yourself" section :D
From what i undestand, DMs dont nessesarily play a BIG role in the World, they might be up there *glances to the underdark ceiling* or they might not. Theyre more busy planning events, working with problems that might occur, stopping deterimental players.
But in anycase, Arelith is quite a nice server, i like it, i think ive played here off and on for a total of about two years.

Re: Couldn't find an "introduce yourself" section :D
The last big event that happened was years ago, involving the Crown of Thorns. I don't see why something like it can't happen again, but it'd take plenty of DM cooperation with themselves and the players. I doubt it was an easy task.

I still can't believe it, but I've been playing the server off and on for about 8 years now...wow.I_Am_Death wrote:I do have to ask though- from what I read here on the forums I get the idea DM's play a rather large-ish role in the Arelith world. So, are they active enough to this effect?
Anyway, to answer this question, the majority of role play is player generated. The dungeon masters in my experience do not adhere strictly to a schedule. You would have lengthy periods where you don't hear from them, then a month or two of almost non stop DM driven plot lines. Apparently, most of the DMs have this thing called "Real life" they need to attend to...whatever that means.
It's what makes the server really cool though, anything can happen at anytime, because everything is driven by Human beings and not maths...well, sort of.
But don't worry. You'll soon change from this , to this , in no time at all.

None of the ones you mentioned were as involving as the Crown of Thorns I do think.

Smaller events occur, large scale events are few and far between.

Hi there, welcome to the madhouse
Arelith is built to be player driven - we give players way more tools than you'll find pretty much anywhere else, and the DM team motto is 'smelt not felt' - i.e. they are there to support great player driven RP through rating roleplay, playing off what player characters do, and occasionally running stories of their own to feed further player interaction. This isn't a DM driven server; there's no master plan for the plot of Arelith that DMs advance through their actions, that's left to the players to generate.
And from up here in the admin helicopter, I focus on keeping things running smoothly and occasionally throw out a new scripting system to add immersion or player options (or approve one of my minions to do so). Irongron is the current build admin, so he and his minions add or overhaul areas.

Welcome to Arelith!
If you have a chance to talk to some of the older characters in the game, take it! This server has a lot of rich history that it's formed on its own just through player interaction, and its a real treat to be able to just sit and listen to the old stories sometimes. (plus, we old players get a kick out of telling the stories too ;p )

Re: Couldn't find an "introduce yourself" section :D
The new trend in Dming is to see what players are concocting and support, enhance and sometimes expand upon the idea. An example would be the Liberate Territories. This was an idea created by players. A group ofplayers got togther, took over the brifdge between Myafield's and teh Arcane Tower and teh Arelith Frontier, and setup up thier own "settlement" right ther on teh bridge! THe had a toll both like system, required papers for people to pass and all sorts of things. This got a lot of chars upset and the whole thing became very controversial (in rp) and hotly debated, sometimes to the point of deaths. Eventually the bridge was expanded and gates and walls added to reflect the fact that chars had settled there. Once teh Territories were forgotten, some of that went away. Now, that's more of a dev thing than a DM , but that is the kind of support we tend to get nowadays.
But I would not actually expect such things to happen, nor should you feel bad if they don't. If the DMs don't do anything, I assure you the players will .

Destroyer of worlds. But not goblins and wolverines. They're scary.
