3D-Modeling for NWN:EE

Post by Dalek Caan » Thu Aug 16, 2018 6:56 pm

Has anyone some insight into that? I have a copy of Maya 2018 available (yay University!) and was wondering if I could work with that. Frankly, I don't want to use gmax, it gives me cataracts.

Maya is definitely a good choice. I'm a 3D modeler by trade but I use 3ds Max. You'll also need a program like Photoshop to make textures. I recommend watching some tutorials online. Also, DM Symphony has a Discord chat all about making overrides for NWN:EE, you might ping him to let you join.

I was just wondering how I should go about exporting models... And also, if I should use blender since there seems to been a plugin to export models in the right format.

Does anyone know some sources where I could get a start? Things like... how many polygons should I restrict models to so that performance is still lovely... Or generally, what the engine can handle. I have a pretty mighty rig and can play Witcher 3 on ultra-settings at 2K resolution. 60fps constantly. Yet in NWN:EE, I drop to 20-30 (sometimes even lower) in areas like the arcane tower dueling grounds. So a general outline on what's feasible would be cool, I can't really find anything...

EDIT: I have photoshop, so no big thing there. I believe there's actually some functionality implemented for textures, bump maps and what not...
