Will the limit on Fixtures ever be increased?

for some quarters, especially small ones that dont share an area with other quarters it is not so bad having 60 as the limit, you can make things look really nice and homely. But for some quarters, specifically gigantic ones like mesmer house, or apartments like in the nomad, or ones with shared area's like the hin turf houses. 60 fixtures is just absolutely nowhere near enough. :(

Unfortunately sometimes you can have only a single fixture if that without casting hellball in proximity to someone's room. :ugeek:

Usually I've found contacting the other players who own space and have used a bunch of fixture space helps, most people are pretty cool about sharing that fixture limit if a little effort goes into it.

If you're in a guild or faction areas, faction leaders will often have to take some steps to enforce fixture limits.

If you're in a less public area and you have that one jerk of a neighbor who insists his 55 chairs are essential and refuses to budge ICly and OOCly? Well. Sometimes things to get done for the greater good. One fixture at a time.

Try talking to people first, but i've personally found that if someone is willing to hog over 50% of the fixture limit to themselves behind a locked door, they aren't very cooperative oocly, either. If its really bad and the OOC drama gets critical, contact a DM about it.

I literally can't see a reason why this isn't a good idea.

With Beamdog announcing 64-bit (which, according to them, means more resources to run), it would only make sense to up the limit from 60 to something like, say, 100.

Yes, some of us do remember the times when the limit was 40. But that was also a time when there was only one server with maximum cap of 75 or so players. Times have changed and fixtures build up over time, as civilizations do.

I would like to see the limit raised to 100 too. Thank you!

Moreover what does the server actually gain from allowing more than 30 fixtures per area besides lag and vanity?

Too many fixtures can also be a visual clutter and eye sore. At the very least, we should see what the performance increase is with 64 bit after it is implemented before doing any changes.

I'd support the fixture limit being increased in certain maps.

For example, in Brogendenstein we have one map that counts as the interior for 7 properties, a meeting hall, a place for putting up statues, the Brogendenstein vault, the administration clerk and a big Silver Dragon.

There just isn't enough fixtures to share between all of these rooms.

I don't get the fixture minimalist camp. I love to see player-created content. A static NWN map, however well-formed, doesn't really capture my imagination in the way that physical player history does. And some if not most of Arelith's mapping is left purposefully barren to support player agency.

If an EE server can handle it with no change in latency, why not?

Spammy vanity projects of no merit are handled by the "invisible hand" of the "free market" in that people just bash, steal or re-purpose them over time, and what remains is that which the consensus holds to be worthy of keeping around.

More lewd furniture to offend Geralt's sense of propriety is always a plus.

The small fixture limit camp, which I probably lean towards, is how they sometimes infest your space. Like goibg through bramvle woodd and seeing the same looking statue but with complete essay descriptions too the point thay what you see is definitely not what you get.

Larger areas like Bendir already tank my FPS because it's ENHANCED. Extra fixtures only make it worse. I'm quite happy that the limit is fairly restrictive as people tend to thoughtlessly spam up "pretty" fixtures in high-traffic areas which is a nightmare for certain players like myself who get severe FPS drops from large amounts of fixtures.

THE game is laggy enough as it is to warrant not raising the cap on that basis alone. The clutter is another: I really don't want to go back to people turning the server into Legoland or Minecraft with fixtures inappropriately being used to create barriers and castles and what not. A lot of teh high fixture areas are just unnecessary clutter: increasing the number of fixtures doesn't make an area more immersive when a few well thought out ones do the job.
