Adventuring alone: I discover...

Post by VashalaReturns » Tue Aug 07, 2018 3:41 am

Walk around the squishy areas --- > Hero gets 0 xp for the griefin' mobs.

Walk just ONE step out of squishy areas ---> 3 wyverns show up, poison you. Giagantic Grizzly comes to eat what's left, with a black bear pal that somehow he's decided not to eat. lose 400xp. You. know. why.

Wyverns are the ultimate "Haha, it's time to die" trap for mid levels.

The wyvern spawn triggers are odd - because of the way the wyvern spawns by flying down, but still immediately having a hitbox, sometimes you get body-shoved across the same trigger 3-04 times in quick succession before it realizes something's spawned an d goes inactive, so 1 wyvern quickly becomes 3.

Then there's areas where there's actually multiple wyvern spawns in the same area. Combine with the above and you quickly realize that they should rename them Cliff Racers.

I actually had no problems with my "horribly built" str based monk @ mid levels (its pretty bad) dealing with wyvrens mid level. Mind you i can't solo contracts at lvl 20.

Was this on Skal? It was on Skal, wasn't it?

The difficulty on Skal can jump in all sorts of nasty ways. The Icewyverns come to mind, though theres a decent resource they're guarding in one specific area that make it worthwhile to try to kill them.

Minotuar caves have a nasty difficulty spike as well. Minotuars themselves aren't bad, but the boss? Worse than fighting 12 regular spawns at once. Thing chews up unprepared people alive.

The tundra areas also have a few trick difficulty jumps. The halforc stronghold/fort tore me apart when I first accidentally stumbled across it. Those things were able to chew up my dominated critters, and just one of those was strong enough to let me solo-kill every other nearby dungeons and everything else nearby (saytars, ghostwood ruins, etc)

That's actually 100% accurate, to be honest. After that, the only thing you need to worry about is the KD.. but, high enough Discipline negates that, making wyvern's laughable. >.>

The wing buffet KD is a fortitude save, not discipline.

Oh yeah, forgot. Lol. My bad! Still.. I play a Battlepriest that has a pretty decent fortitude.. guess I never really noticed that. Thanks for the clarification, TimeAdept!

Adventuring alone, I recently discovered how painful crippling strike is, especially to if you who already have low Strength. And apparently the duration of the reduction is permanent. Ouch!

Whoever is lamenting Wyverns are weak. At least they are in level correct space.

Now DOOM Stirges...
