Because Arelith players have at least one really predictable button to push and it can only be pushed once a year.

one time we blew up all of ultrinnan and we temporarily (like 3 hours worth) changed the Drow starting point to Shadowscape
the first letter of each paragraph in the DM event post spelled "april fools day"
I wasn't allowed to do anything fun after that

Those sort of gags are not my thing, and may not be yours. But it was just a bit of fun, and made me smile. Staff are people, too.
Re: April Fools
The best was still the attack of the zombie hoards, that was seriously epic

I remember that one! But Arcimedes and Oneday had very little to do with it: it was mostly, Mithreas, Jjjerm, Artos and myself scrambling to cobble something together in a day. I'm honestly surprised it worked as well as it did. The second time we added a bunch of fixes and easter eggs (some cheeky players figured out that you could rid yourself of zombie penalties by doing *prays*).

I laughed a certain body off.

I totally believed that. OMG.
Re: April Fools
I have to admit you made me really happy with your first line, and not so much after, considering I read it today and totally forgot that April 1st is a thing..yellowcateyes wrote:

P.C I was about to buy another copy to support EE just for that 40 lvl change on Arelith finally ).

Still my favourite event ever, and I only got to play it as a DM!Fireboar wrote: ↑Sun Apr 01, 2018 8:05 pmI remember that one! But starting the event off by dropping a few zombies in the middle of Cordor's temple district and watching how it evolved over the coming minutes and hours was an awesome TV show.

Zombie day...ah....good times
I still think it should be a standing thing...the curse of Velsharoon hanging over the Isle...there could be a totally plausible IC explanation for this...
Nod nod.

I liked the time when you logged on and everyone had the opposite gender. Fun times.
Re: April Fools
If I recall correctly, this was the first time gonnes were added, with the description of it being made by Gnomes. With it saying something along the lines of, "Now you see a zombie and the next moment it's gonne"Fireboar wrote: ↑Sun Apr 01, 2018 8:05 pmI remember that one! Shortly after, gonnes were added into Regulith.
Re: April Fools
Seeing so many "..." in that post, reminds of the april fools day where Mith scripted things so that each time you typed "...", you'd turn into a chicken.
Re: April Fools
That was also Fireboar.
Most of our April Fools tricks were done by Fireboar, which explains why many fewer happened once he left the team. All too often my work schedule lined up poorly with spending a couple of evenings putting something fun together at the right time.
Gonnes were me though, one of the many Pratchett homages that have found their way into Arelith.

Was The Dictionary of Inappropriate Prepositions an April Fools joke? I can't remember.

Re: April Fools
I do miss the Pratchett references sometimes, as they have slowly been winnowed away. Noticed that the forum's clacks overhead disappeared a while back, too. Thank goodness gonnes have stuck around!

Yeah, it wasn't ported over to the last couple of servers. Maybe I'll sneak it back in there when the current admin team aren't looking.
