My Arelith New Year's Resolution
Hi everyone.
Fair warning, this post is a bit candid. Call it an epiphany, of sorts. I'll start with a confession: over the years, on these forums, there have been occasions where I have been rude. Not always, and I am probably not the worst, but I've been rude nonetheless, or at least somewhat aggressive at times. (I've posted under an alternate account, BTW, for those of you who do not recognize my name.)
Today I got into a somewhat snippy argument with someone on the forums. Somehow, this led to us dueling on the Arelith PGCC. When I logged in, I will admit that I was out for blood. I had an ax to grind, but it turns out we had a blast. I was very humbled by how chill and forgiving this other player was, and I respect them a lot as a result. In the end, I was reminded of the obvious truth which we so easily forget: that positive feelings are better than negative ones.
It has led me to introspect a bit about the kind of person I want to be as a member of this community. So, my apologies to anyone towards whom my conduct has ever been hurtful or offensive. I will strive to be a more ethical person in my dealings with others when posting on these forums, and I encourage others to do the same.
Bottom line, be kind to each other. It might require you to be conciliatory, or do things that you think will bruise your ego. In the end, though, you'll probably feel more esteem for yourself than you did otherwise. After all, as human beings, we want the respect of others, and being nice to other people will win you more of that than being mean will.

Nobody died. Everyone won because good times were had by all, and the duel is not what is important. My dear friends, have you heard nothing I have said? This obsession with winning will consume your souls and corrupt you into larvae-like creatures.

Maggots will make you a lot of money if you sell them to the right people.Baron Saturday wrote:I love y'all but can we not do maggots?

Maybe the Night Hags are looking for a middleman. Send our your resume, I guess?
Re: My Arelith New Year's Resolution
Just to chime in as the other person involved in the duel, I agree with the entirety of the OP.
I've definitely at times been a bit confrontational on the forum, most notably whenever the topic of kensai came up.
I had originally logged in to PGCC, with the goal of proving my point, but in the end that didn't really matter.
I had a lot of fun with the duels on various characters and the conversations, I appreciate the non-kensai build ideas given, and it definitely wasn't a negative experience when it easily could have been, to which I owe you both respect and a thanks.
I too have changed my perspective following this event and have made it a bit of a resolution to focus more on acceptance of situations.
It's become pretty clear to me that arguing why I liked something the way it was doesn't really matter. It's not that way any more and it's not being changed back. Every opinion there is on how it was is all just a thing of the past now; none of it matters in the present.
Instead of wasting my effort on that, I'll focus my effort on suggesting new and different alternatives that can better achieve what kensai was supposed to be, and finding new playstyles and classes I can enjoy.
With all of the changes made, there might be something out there I'll enjoy now that I didn't before.

This too is a habit for myself that I want to break. 'Winning' isn't always what matters most.Nobody died. Everyone won because good times were had by all, and the duel is not what is important.
