He-an and the Masters of the Universe

Post by Aero Silver » Fri Dec 01, 2017 4:44 pm

Apparently, a new movie featuring He-an and Skeletor is in production and is scheduled to be released in December 2019.

Any thoughts of how this will turn out?

Production costs forced the company to cut off the m in their title to save money.

He-man. Blame it on the auto correction feature.

The 1987 Masters of the Universe was good, I watched it WAY back when I was young and a few more times over the years, I will say its acting is cheese but that is why i like it so much.

Dolph Lundgren had the look down, he was a good He-Man. Frank Langella's Skeletor was spot on as an evil sorcerer. Hell if I ever play a lich that is the look I'll go for. Lets not forget Skeletor Stormtroopers they gave this new feel to it like it was a real war for Eternia and not just He-Man and Skeletor smackin eachother around.

Arelith has already had at least one char based on Skeletor. If any of you remember the Banite Dreadmaster Azure, that was the one. (His player even told me he was going for Skeletor.)

I grew up with He-man toys and comic books. The movie was fun, but had its flaws. I could not see it when I was young because the video rental store had one messed up VHS tape that always ruined my VHS head lens. I saw it several years ago on Netflix.
I didn't like the fact that they left Eternia to fight on earth.
I didn't like how Beastman looked like Grizlor.
And I didn't like the introduction of Blade. I wish they used Triclops or even Jitsu instead...
And I didn't like Gwildor the gnome. Orko is a better comic relief character.
I didn't like the horde troopers. These belong To Hordak.

But, it is a good movie, based on its budget and target audience.

I expect the new movie to be better with advanced CG and be rated R, because the Masters of the Universe fans have all grown.

Im with ya on many of those points as well Aero Silver but I look at movie adaptations as just that, someone else's view of the source material. More like a fanfiction or .. Gundam is a good way to look at it.

Gundam Wing, Gundam SEED, Iron Blood Gundam. All still Gundam but not Mobile Suit Gundam. All tell a story with the same base at its core. I think its why I can say I like the Resident Evil and Tomb Raider movies. Thats not to say I wont trash them if they are crap (Im looking at you Super Mario Bros.!!!!!)

As to the new movie I dont think it will be R Ill go with PG13 as this may be a shot at getting kids into a mostly dead toy line I think. Yes there will be stuff for the older fans but its a chance to push toys more then anything else.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
You actually brought up a valid point. The movie may be successful as PG13. The movie will be geared towards old fans and maybe the children of those fans.
But I don't think it will be any different from Conan the Barbarian movie, which was aimed towards Howard's fans and AoC players. No point in speculating now. Only time will tell.
