resolution issue?

Post by BattleDrake » Fri Nov 03, 2017 3:18 am

So I recently got a new computer and i'm having some serious difficulties getting it to run nwn properly. For starters, the computer is an acer predator helios 300, running with a gpu NVidia 1060 using intel graphics to manage settings. On my previous computer, I ran nwn with 1920x1080 with no issues, but now the game view changes when I try to run 1920x1080(Which is the default resolution of the laptop). The first issue, is the main menu is always at the bottom right of the screen at the high resolution. Also, when I log in game my character is not in the center of the screen. The character is always slightly up and to the right of where it should normally be. Lastly, cloaks aren't displaying properly. I can only get them to show up when I change resolution ig, but it disappears after a relog and I can't get it to appear unless I change resolution again. I attempted to get screenshots of the issues to provide visual representation of what i'm experiencing, but the screenshots show what the game should look like instead of what I see.

For troubleshooting, I've tried everything I could dig up. I've altered the nwn.ini file and config files to have 1920x1080 resolution. I've changed screen rate to 59 instead of 60. I've gone into intel graphic settings and tried all four options(Maintain display, maintain aspect ratio, center, scale full), and the override application options. I've downloaded the latest NVidia driver. I've gone into nwn properties from right clicking and ran compatibility for xp, override high dpi, and disable fullscreen optimizations. I came | | close to sacrificing a goblin, but decided i'd hold off for possible alternatives.

I'd run the game on 800x600, but those black bars on the side drive me crazy, and stretching the game to fill the screen at that resolution makes my duergar look like a gnome, so you can understand why that is a big no no :). Not to mention, the cloak issue still persists as well, regardless of resolution. If anyone has any other things I can try, it'd be a big help.

It's an issue with the latest NVidia drivers, the last two or three updates broke NwN's graphics.

You'll want to rollback to about 9th of October's drivers to fix the issue.

If it doesn’t, try adjusting NWN’s compatibility settings to disable Windows’ high dpi scaling feature.
This has fixed similar issues on my laptop.

So downloaded the NVidia driver from September, installed and restarted. Still exact same issue :(. High dpi setting was already tried, no luck there.

Alrilght, so I set the resolution to 1680? x 1050, whatever the next one down is, and everything appears to be looking fine. Probably can't tell the difference between that and 1920 anyways. Game has become playable now, visibly, but still having that cloak issue.

One more thing to add that I've noticed. Doors that are those cloth drapes are invisible and show up as glowy cage like lines when tab is held.

You need the driver from May. That's the one I had to roll back to (Geforce 950m here)

There's a "Q&A" section on the forums.
Suddenly everyone's smiling.

My question fits both forums respectively, not sure it matters which of the two I put my question in ^.^.

As for the may drivers, tried those too, both of them. Still same issue. Beginning to think it's not a driver issue.

You've tried overriding the high DPI scaling, but have you also selected the option to have the scaling performed by the Application, in compatibility settings?
The latter option is what's made the final difference for me.

Have a question that isn't meant to inspire idle chat? -> Q&A section.

I sincerely wish I could help you with your issue. But I can't. Good luck finding a solution!

That did it actually. I thought I had tried all three(application, system, system enhanced). But apparently, I had skipped application. Worked right away. Thank you very much!
