Rodent

Post by Aodh Lazuli » Fri Sep 15, 2017 2:13 pm

I'm really not sure where to post this, so I'll just put it here.

A few of you might have noticed that Rodent, a member of our community, has been absent for a while.

The last time I spoke to him was on the 8th of august, at which point he informed me he was on the recovery from a serious illness. Today, however, I was informed that he passed away on the 13th of august from malaria.

I'm not prone to forming close friendships with people online. However, Rodent was something of an exception to this. I have been telling stories with him for the last eight or nine years across various gaming and roleplay communities, as well as just passing time talking... And that time has been something I valued immensely.

Rodent (Prarabdh - as this was his name in the offline world), was a fantastic example of a human. Intelligent, creative, insightful, thoughtful and fundamentally decent to other people. I will miss him.

So to those of you who interacted with Shallan Alvere, Phaerlyn De'lyl, Alexander Falkland, Myr Elian, Arianne de Fleur, Laine Varley and various other characters, all of them three dimensional, generously played and well crafted... I'd ask you to raise a glass to someone we should all be glad to have met.

Rodent was one of the buddies from our old gaming server, apart of the group I came to Arelith with. We spent many nights talking and laughing and joking over teamspeak, planning events and just talking about life.

We came to Arelith and experienced what this place has to offer, still the jokes and fun times rolled from such a brilliant mind. He was a wonderful person, a hard worker, and full of energy.

You'll be entirely missed, Rod.

I didn't get to play with Rodent for very long, but it wasn't hard to tell how talented, considerate and all of around a great guy he was. Always bringing me and others into the fun as well as being a fine guy to just talk to, those times will be remembered fondly and he will be missed.

This is awful news. I've played a lot with Rodent over several characters. I thought his absence over the last few months was just due to real life stuff ...

He'll be sorely missed.

It doesn't feel real. I'd like to think we could've felt something was wrong but... I just hoped he was alright, watching series and giving Arelith a rest.It feels like I've just been smacked in the head with a brick. My condolences to his family, and the people in his life. He'll be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

Farewell to a person for whom I had the utmost amount of respect. Whose characters always bailed mine out, and never failed to make things interesting. Farewell to a guy that made things fun, enjoyed making jokes and teasing people.

I'll miss that.

Be the change you want to see, and shape the server because of it. Players can absolutely help keep their fellow players accountable.

Very sad news, and awful that people still have to die from Malaria in the world.

My condolences to all who knew him closely. It is heartwarming to see what kind of relationships people can build in communities like this. And that even though the reason is so sad, that this can be shared here.

This hits hard. Rodent was such an amazing roleplayer, and to me, was one of those players that did an excellent job at including others to his RP. He was a great, great person. Damn.. I will miss him.

I wish I could articulate the grief and ill I feel at this devastating, horrible news. Rodent was an exemplary member of the community, and most importantly a good friend - the best one could find. He is certain to be missed. I will light a candle for him.

Live on in eternal life, Prarabdh.

Jää hyvästi ja lepää rauhassa.

There was never a time I did not look forward to indulge to great stories Rodent provided, and the OOC talks that left me smiling like a fool too many times to count. He was all around a great guy.

He will be remembered fondly, and because they had a knack to make fun of us Finns (all in good spirit of course) and had an awesome taste in music, I'll just leave this here.

Haven't been in the community for too much of a time, but Rodent was one of those I got close to pretty quickly, all the time we spent roleplaying together was fun, He was a good person, he taught me alot , and we experienced alot. I will cherish the memories formed with him.

May he rest in peace.

Oh no. I was never close with him, but he sent me lots and lots of jokes in tells and I enjoyed his roleplay quite a bit across a good handful of those characters. Just in general he was a very positive pressence at all times.

I can only really express my deepest condolences to those who were close with him, and that I understand what you're all going through.

Thank you for making this thread, Aodh. I would have been more upset if I had only eventually heard via word of mouth. This is really, really just so terrible.

So sad to hear this. Myr was always great to talk to, IC and OOC.

From one Tolkien nerd to another:

Death Song to Boromir

Aragorn:
Through Rohan over fen and field where the long grass
grows
The West Wind comes walking, and about the walls it
goes.
'What news from the West, O wandering wind, do you
bring to me tonight?
Have you seen Boromir the Tall by moon or by starlight?'
'I saw him ride over seven streams, over waters wide
and grey;
I saw him walk in empty lands, until he passed away
Into the shadows of the North. I saw him then no more.
The North Wind may have heard the horn of the son of
Denethor.'
'O Boromir! From the high walls westward I looked
afar,
But you came not from the empty lands where no men
are.'

Legolas:
From the mouths of the Sea the South Wind flies, from
the sandhills and the stones;
The wailing of the gulls it bears, and at the gate it
moans.
'What news from the South, O sighing wind, do you bring
to me at eve?
Where now is Boromir the Fair? He tarries and I grieve.'
'Ask not of me where he doth dwell -- so many bones
there lie
On the white shores and the dark shores under the
stormy sky;
So many have passed down Anduin to find the flowing
Sea.
Ask of the North Wind news of them the North Wind
sends to me!'
'O Boromir! Beyond the gate the seaward road runs
south,
But you came not with the ailing gulls from the grey
sea's mouth.'

Aragorn:
From the Gate of Kings the North Wind rides, and past
the roaring falls;
And clear and cold about the tower its loud horn calls.
'What news from the North, O mighty wind, do you
bring to me today?
What news of Boromir the Bold? For he is long away.'
'Beneath Amon Hen I heard his cry. There many foes he
fought.
His cloven shield, his broken sword, they do the water
brought.
His head so proud, his face so fair, his limbs they laid
to rest;
And Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, bore him upon its
breast.'
'O Boromir! The Tower of Guard shall ever northward
gaze
To Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, until the end of days.'

I'm pretty heartbroken over this. I really enjoyed Myr quite a lot. I had been wondering why they had vanished and had just assumed they were on another character.

This is why we need to work as a global community to stamp out disease. That someone died of Malaria in the 21st century is horrifying to me. This should not be.

I shall miss his humour and the gentle metronome of "Rodent has joined as a player."
