Expanded consecration classes

Post by Kaninchen » Sun Oct 22, 2023 2:40 pm

Saw that this was suggested before, but way back in 2018. Hoping that, since many things have changed since then (like new classes)1, it's possible to ask for this change again:

Please allow more than just Clerics, specific Harper types, and Gifts of Devotion to consecrate/desecrate altars. Obviously, not every divine caster should be allowed to do this -- Rangers and Favored Souls come to mind, since lore-wise they're not as well-versed in such intricate rituals -- but the fact that Paladins, Druids, and Shamans are completely incapable of consecrating altars is ... well, confusing, to put it very mildly.

It's almost impossible to find altars for non-major deities, and the rare ones that you do find are nearly always desecrated. Finding a Cleric (or someone with the Devotion gift) who is willing or able to consecrate altars to minor deities is nigh impossible -- the piety penalty for swapping deities is an annoyance that few are willing to take, and doing so also makes no sense RP-wise (why would a Cleric swap deities just to consecrate an altar for someone else?).

Possibly add some tough but fair limits/caveats (like a vastly higher piety cost and/or a big chunk of XP/gold if not a Cleric, only Clerics/GoD can desecrate, non-Clerics/GoD can only consecrate once per month, etc.) so that Clerics and those with Devotion are still highly useful in terms of faith RP.

Thank you
